I am unable to start indesign because this message pops up "Adobe InDesign is missing required system fonts or CMap files. Please reinstall InDesign". I have uninstalled, restarted and reinstalled the InDesign App to no avail. Any advice on how to fix the problem?

That's an unusual error that I haven't heard of for a long time.
There could be some sort of conflict on your system. One trick I've heard used is using the CC Cleaner Tool before reinstalling again:

I think the problem in my case was the cache, cause after I deleted the cache and preferences the problem was solved and I was able to restore my old preferences without a problem.

Hi everyone,
I appreciate all the troubleshooting efforts you’ve already tried. I understand how frustrating this issue has been, especially after multiple reinstalls, cleaner tool attempts, and checking system fonts.
We’ve logged a bug for this issue internally, and the product team is actively working on a fix. I’ll update this thread as soon as I hear back from them. In the meantime, if you haven’t already, please check out this reference thread where other users have reported similar issue

So why are we all having to noodle around in circles with no input from Adobe themselves?
Everybody has tried every possible solution.
I renamed my Adobe file in Application Support because CC Cleaner did not delate any files from it.
When I did a full re-install it created a new Adobe folder with every EXCEPT the files it keeps saying that it missing.
Giving up on it until Adobe does something with a new update.

I was on chat with someone from adobe today and they told me to go on the Adobe CC app and go to fonts and "install the fonts", i asked which ones and they said "all of them". Theres 4000 plus fonts. They were no help, in the end they said it was a Mac Issue, even though I pointed out in, this issue has popped up in the past with Windows and Mac users.

I have a Macbook Pro as well (Sequoia 15.3.1), and Indesign etc runs fine ....no problems.......However, I also have an older Imac running OS Ventura 13.7.5 and that WAS alright with Indesign until a recent update ... then I had the same issues as other people. I, too, have tried everything you have advised with the same negative outcome. I went back to the oldest install I could find...same result...always negative, always same message about fonts and Cmap files... I have also checked these against the laptop and can't see any difference......

This worked for me too. I quit Creative Cloud and all Adobe apps, then deleted all preferences and caches related to
Adobe. InDesign booted right up after.

If you made a back up of your preferences you can manually restore them without a problem, worked for me at least.

If one is going to make a copy of their preferences--reset the prefs, change the prefs as desired, quit ID, THEN make a copy. DON'T make a copy right before resetting the prefs--if that is the problem, they are already corupt.

Dave..is this pertinent......Indesign 20.2 (up to date) doesn't work, so I went to the oldest option (19.5.3) ....yet again (I've been there already)...... and it has opened. Why? Dunno. Perhaps after umpteen clearing attempts? My only problem now is that anything on my Imac will be V19, but what is on my MacPro laptop is the latest Indesign version (v20). Until now I have had the same versions on each machine and (until the last update) everything was fine......I'm giving up. I have purchased a large BenQ display and have plugged the MacPro into it. I should have done that ages ago. (But the whole issue still remains a mystery).

D... I had to look that up in Perplexity (!) for the machine and OS, and the answers appear to be positive. Anyway, we're now OK for the moment, so thx.

As a test, make sure you are not running any software known to cause a problem, including the BenQ display software.

D...The BenQ is with my laptop....FYI, the Imac is 2017, Intel, running Ventura 13.7.5.....It seems OK at the moment, but asks for an Adobe update – which I am avoiding, even though it was running a recent Indesign, even with occasional warnings that I wasn't getting all the benefits. It was the very last update (a couple of weeks ago; I always keep up to date) that caused the issue. BTW, other Adobe apps are fine. The problem was only Indesign.
