One day Fonts are installed, then next they aren't, the next they're back. What gives?

I have fonts managed in Adobe Fonts and used consistently throughout my InDesign docs. One day they're fine, the next week they're missing with no option to activite or replace in the "Find/Replace Font" menu option, a couple days later they are back as if they never left.

I go to fonts.adobe.com to reactivate them and they all have active status.

Please help me with these questions so I can avoid these constant annoyances.

  1. Why do fonts randomly disappear, then reappear in my docs and menus?
  2. Why are fonts labeled OTF in my InDesign fonts them, then the OTF label disappears the next time I open the doc?
  3. Could this be caused by a VPN or similar situation?

This is a huge problem for my team and I. We are using V20.0.1

Hi @susand8745857,

Thanks for reaching out! I understand how frustrating this can be. Let’s work through it together.

Could you share the details of your operating system (e.g., Windows 10/11 or macOS version) in addition to confirming your InDesign version (20.0.1)?

Please verify the below:

1. Ensure that Adobe Fonts is enabled in the Creative Cloud app under Preferences > Services > Adobe Fonts. Restart InDesign and Creative Cloud if fonts aren’t syncing properly.

2. VPN Impact: Yes, a VPN or inconsistent internet connection can disrupt font synchronization. If you’re using a VPN, try disabling it temporarily to check if the issue persists.

3. Cache Issues: Sometimes font issues can be due to cache corruption. Try clearing your font cache. Here’s a guide for troubleshooting Adobe FontTroubleshoot font issues

4. The OTF label might not appear consistently due to how InDesign reads active fonts versus locally installed ones. Make sure fonts are activated from Adobe Fonts and not replaced by system fonts.

Let me know how it goes or if you need further assistance!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

I have found that signing out of my account in the Creative Cloud Desktop app and then signing back in again will solve the issue of Adobe fonts disappearing. It sounds like a dumb solution (like kicking it on the side) but I have seen it work in a case like you present.
