Publish Online | Extremely slow | InDesign 17.4

Hi, since a couple of days loading of our published documents is extremely slow. Has anybody else experienced this and, if so, is this an Adobe server issue? Maintenance? Docs that were previously loading in a sec now take almost ten to half a minute to load... Fingers crossed this is temporarily and quickly resolved.

I am having the same issue - I just tested it and found this group.

I work in the film industry developing pitch decks, and myself and many of my peers truly rely on the InDesign Publish Online functionality as a vital tool for the work that we do, especially when publishing documents that use GIF imagery.  It has become widely recognized among my peers that the Publish Online functionality has been broken for several days now, for the same reasons that are mentioned on this thread (i.e. significantly slower load times, particularly for any pages using GIF imagery).  We truly need this fixed as soon as possible, this is a tool that we rely on for our professional output.

I also work in the film pitch deck industry... and yeah it is really throwing a wrench in our work right now. Really hoping that the issue gets fixed soon. 😞

Hi All,

Could you please test and confirm if you're still experiencing the issue?

Hey Rishabh,

Still having a longer than usual load time, but not quite as bad as it was yesterday. And still having images only half appear, or not appear at all though. 😞

Also having this issue. Why does Publish Online functionality seem to break every 3-6 months? The window for my clients viewing presentations is time sensitive. Can we have an option to export to a more reliable platform. May just use Google Slides for interactive presentations but I'd rather not have to.

Hi Meanmango,
Same thought occurred to me, when you publish inline, why can’t we have the
option to receive the files, so we can put on our server - even better an
ftp dialogue that retains our server settings to allow max ease. Then,
Adobe wouldn’t be responsible either for support, orcost of server - makes
absolute sense. Pity, cos when I started using PO, the load speed was
incredible - a major reason why I decided to use Indesign for producing web
apps

THIS! This would be a real solution and allow the user to regain control rather than being at the mercy of a third-party web server.

I seem to recall that it was actually possible in CS5, but removed? Anyway, I doubt very much Adobe's management will allow for this: they are primarily in the business of online services now, and prefer to steer users towards their cloud services. (Just look at Photoshop's new "would you like to save to our cloud?" nonsense instead of just displaying the save dialog by default.)

It's just about money flow and control. Adobe likes to control their users in this regard. It is what it is.

Hi,

We're so sorry for the delay. The engineering team has identified the issue and working on deploying the fix. I'll update the discussion as soon it gets deployed.

Hi All,

The recent internal changes caused this disruption.

The fix has been identified, and the deployment of the fix is planned tonight IST.

Thanks,

Hi - I've created a interactive map and published it on my website. Unfortualtly when I load the page, the map takes 10-20 secondes to load up. In the Advanced settins i have optimised it to 72pp , Medium Resolution. The images are quite small but, it does have a total of 13 object states...

Is there another way to optimise the file, reduce its size and reduce the loading time?

The map:

Is anyone else having issues with Online Publication? I am trying to publish a fairly simple layout and am just getting a continuous loading icon when I click on View Document. I have restarted InDesign and my computer, still the same. Helllppppp.

I just tested and Publish Online is working for me. It was a 2-spread file and it previewed quickly.

Can you provide some more information about your setup: Please tell us what operating system (exactly) you're running. Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using.

Could you try another file; maybe there was an issue with that file (corruption?)

I am working on a MacOS Big Sur, Macbook Pro version 11.7 from 2019. And my InDesign is the latest version, 17.4. I did try exporting other documents and was having the same issues. I build commercial pitch decks so it is a combination of words and images and a few gifs. But I literally do this every day for work and have never had the Publish Online feature do this.

I too am having exactly the same issues as reported. Slow loading of pages and video is buffering terribly. We've even gone through all the videos in the document and optimised them (largest is 8mb, smallest is 769kb) and although it's improved buffering, it still does it. Never had this issue before - whats the score please @Rishabh_Tiwari ?

Hi @jay_designuk ,

The bug is still open, and I am keeping track of it, so please bear with me. I will update the bug as soon as I hear from the team or if I need any information required to triage this issue.

I suspect a change made to Publish Online server setup has caused this
issue. Also, now uploading from Indesign is really slow Rishab
