Page master items won't apply

I'm working on an inherited book file created many years ago by someone who knew much less about how to use InDesign than I'm sure she eventually learned (how's that for being politic?). I've deleted all of her master pages and created new ones, but some of them simply won't apply. Any ideas what might cause that?

Thanks.

The first thing I am thinking is that the pages somehow have overrides and the overrides need to be removed to you can see the Master items.

You can select items that are on the Master with Cmd+Shift+Click and then they can be deleted. This would cause them to not show, and that would be an override. (The can also be done from the Pages panel menu.)

The overrides can be removed using the Pages panel menu and then you will once again see the items on the Master.

Try this first, as it is the most lik

Maybe different size of these pages/masters?

Or

you have to prepare left and right master to use in document with facing pages. Check it

Thanks, Pawel. Page sizes match. All masters have correctly formatted facing pages. Headers and footers are what's not showing up.

If what you are talking about is applying new master items to existing pages try putting the new material on a layer that is above the layer of the current pages and then try applying the new masters.

Thanks, Bill. I deleted all of the old masters, then created and applied new ones to all the pages. The headers and footers are not applying in many places.

["deleted all the old masters" sounds like a wiped out da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. ]

Hi,

Please post a screenshot of the pages panel with document pages and master pages showing up.

What master page is applied to document page cutrently? Is it A-master or [None]? Have you changed master page names? What is the desired master page you want to apply? Is it based on some other master page?

Are you able to apply/change applied master page on a newly created document?

Thanks, Aman. Here are some screenshots:

Here is master C (just the header with the title/chapter + page number):

Here is master B (just the footer with the page number):

This spread should have master C on the verso and master B on the recto. Neither header/footer is showing up.

Masters are applying just fine in new docs.

If you sent an email with attachments, the screen shots would get stripped out. Click the "Insert Image" icon in the bar at the top of the message or copy and paste them into a message.

Evidently pasting is no longer sufficient. I had to use the insert image icon. That's a nuisance...

Aha! This may be the answer! I searched for how to do this and found Pages>Master Pages>Remove All Local Overrides, but that option is grayed out. Do I need to have each page selected for it to work? IOW, am I going to have to do this three hundred times, or is there some way to remove overrides for the whole document?

Thanks!
