Save and SaveAs options are disabled

Hello all.

I am facing very strange issue in Indesign 2021(16.2.1) on macOS Big Sur(11.3) where Save and Save As... options is disabled for new document even after adding one path item to the new document. Please see screenshot for the reference

Is it a known bug in this version or am I missing something?

It is working fine on Windows.

It's usually an issue with your InDesign Preferences

Delete InDesign preferences with shortcuts

You can delete the replaceable InDesign SaveData and InDesign Defaults files by holding down the following keys while InDesign is launching:

• Windows: Shift+Ctrl+Alt
• Mac OS: Shift+Control+Option+Command

Thank you but unfortunately it doesn't work even after deleting the Indesign preferences.

This is happening only on mac not on windows.

Mac or Windows - removing the preferences helps.

Yes it works but only when I delete preferences and caches folder. But when I launch the Indesign second time without deleting these folder, the same issue exists.

I'm on Windows 10. Hm. Is your machine one of the new M1 chip Macs?

Maybe you have to remove the cache files as well?

No I am not using new M1 chips mac.

Ok, I tried by cleaning the cache and preferences and when I clean and relaunch it, it works fine. and then I quit Indesign and launch it again same problem. 

So, everytime when I clean cache and preferences it works, but not without that.

A lot of flaky stuff like this is caused by browser extensions, too.

Maybe try a boot with non-essentiall programs disabled and see if there's a conflict someplace.

I tried and  make sure to close all other application and just indesign is open still same problem.

Try updating your Mac to 11.3.1, if that doesn't help, reinstall InDesign, selecting the replace preferences option.

Hi Charu,

Sorry to hear about your experience. We tried to replicate the issue on our end following the video shared by you but we couldn't.

We'd need some more information like:

1. Are there any third party plugins/extension installed?
2. Please try creating a new user account on your Mac & see if you have the similar behavior.
3. Can you try all the steps with v15.1.3 and let us know the observation?

This information would be very helpful.

Yes, I have plugins but all developed by me. So, I have removed them and tested, but no luck. Secondly everything works fine in v15.1.3.

I have not tried by creating a new user account yet. But I will do so and update here if it has similar behaviour.

Have a look at the kDocBoss IID_ICLASSIDDATA - it should be kDocFileHandlerBoss .

There are also some interesting getters in IID_IDOCUMENT.

Are there any background tasks (PDF exports etc.) working on the document?

Does the document info dialog (Menu InDesign >> About InDesign ..., with all keyboard modifiers) display anything unusual?

Are there any asserts in the debug build?
