I want to remove the number 1 from the first chapter page. Here is the Snag........I went to the layout tab, pages, then in the drop-down - I would go to the Apply Master to Pages... a window should show up Apply Master pages...this is where I should be able to change to none.
In the drop-down - In the list, there is no Apply Master Pages....it seems to be missing.
If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix this it would be greatly appreciated...I am a beginner....
At the time of my question, I wasn't. I am now. You're the first to mention it. I figured it out. I'm using a tutorial that is five years old. There are differences, I have to figure it. Yes, now I know Parent pages is the title.

Can you post a screenshot?
And if you want to remove a TextFrame with a Page Number marker - just override it and delete.

There are 24 chapters, want to hide the number on the first page of the chapter. I'm working with a template. If I override, when I build all the chapters will the numbers continue in sequence?

When you insert Current Page Marker - it will be replaced with the "name" of the current page this markes is placed on.
Its presence / removal doesn't affect page numbering in any way.

I want to thank you for your input in solving problems, it's tough when not seeing what going on, and I'm a beginner. I updating what I learned, just in case someone else has this same snag. I am watching an excellent tutorial, it is an old version. I'm working off 2024/25... Instead of seeing Apply to Master Pages ....Use Apply to Parent Pages (it does the same thing)......I believe as there are upgrades, I suppose the words changed.....

Yes. Adobe has succumbed to political correctness.

With lots of help, and a great resource for me all is well, until the next snag. The emotional stress, that took a bottle of wine and some consideration of taking Xanax, because Adobe wants political correctness. Would have been nice if Adobe had emailed me personally giving me a heads-up.....(written with sarcasm). Thanks, everyone, you are appreciated.

If you are working with older tutorials, another point of difficulty is that the appearance of the Selection and Direct Selection icons in the Tools Panel has bee swapped, and to make things even worse, the actual cursors, at least in my chosen workspace, are the opposites of their icons.
LOTS of users had trouble with this. I don't look at the image of the icons so much as remember the locations in the panel, but that's the result of decades of working in InDesign.

I think, I saw something like this for InDesign - but can't find it right now?

Your response made me laugh but seriously, if you can't find something just stop in and ask. Then you can save the wine for the post-page number removal celebration! 🥳

The change actually makes sense when discussing based-on masters/parents. It's common to refer to these as a parent/child relationship (much like XML and HTML). The old method would have been master/slave, which doesn't seem right (master/apprentice does not denote the right concept). I used the parent/child description in my classes even before the change.

Anyway, it's possible that your configuration got corrupted:

Are you aware that master are renamed to parent pages?

Hey @Dalysuzin,
Glad to hear you figured it out! And yes, the terminology switch from "Master Pages" to "Parent Pages" has definitely tripped up a lot of folks, especially those using older tutorials. You're not alone in this! If you hit any other issues, just give us a shout.
Best,
Abhishek
