I'm getting this issue where when I make any changes to text within a text box, like typing within it, cutting/pasteing, editing, etc. the text disappears. Sometimes it'll come back if I click out of the text box. Sometimes it comes back if I switch between normal and preview mode.
It doesn't happen every time, but often enough to be incredibly annoying.
I'm running:
Hi all,
Hi @Twall55,
Please click this link (www.adobeprerelease.com/) and go to the "Available Program" section to join the InDesign prerelease.
Then accept the Prerelease agreement and follow the steps mentioned below to install the
prerelease v17.2.0.9:
- Close InDesign
- Go to Creative Cloud Desktop and look for Prerelease in the Apps section. (If you don't see it, then please check you are login with the same email ID you have signed in on the Prerelease website. If it still doesn't show up, the
Install the 17.2 pre-relase. It has worked well for me on a 2020 M1 MacBookPro! See instructions posted above or see the tips I posted above that helped with 17.1.
Finally!!! I installed the prerelease (17.2) and the bug that persisted for far too long has finally disappeared. After 9 months of hard work, I was finally able to do one day of layout without any bug. A real miracle!
Not only did 17.2, reased this morning to North America, fix the text issue, it's also screamingly fast, especially opening files.
OK, done. NEXT!
Hi Sarah, updating to 17.2 fixed the text issue for my wife. She hasn't had it happen once since then, so far.
Have you updated?

There's a new update to InDesign rolling out – v17.1, hopefully that might resolve your issues.

It doesn't solve it. Still happening with this version.

I upgraded to something this morning and didn't have a problem today, but... now the drop-down menu for the search box in the find and change feature isn't working; I can only do searches in a "story," not the whole file. So if I can't make global changes, this will add hours to my jobs.

Indeed problem is still there with 17.1. Its getting really annoying. I have a 600 page book with 1200 corrections. takes a minute per correction now. Me not happy client not happy. Jeez, its been months now... When is adobe going to give us refunds? Consumer law states that you may expect a product to work. if not it needs to be reimburesed. Indesign was a great programme, now its a mess.

It didn't resolve my issues. I still have the same issues with v17.1. When is Adobe going to resolve my issues of disappearing type once and for all! Don't you idiots realize you are starting to lose customers because of this issue. People are abandoning InDesign for Affinity Publisher. Read some of the most recent posts in this forum.
"I've just given up with designing anything on InDesign on my M1 Macbook pro now! I just bought Affinity Publisher and spent around 15 minutes having a play around and, wow! totally blown away with it - and no subscriptions, just buy once and its done!!"
Do something soon!

Hi Theresa,
to get access to the document scope of a find/replace action to all found texts, try the following script code with Text Find/Replace:
app.documents[0].changeText();
That command will change all text instances found in one go.
It's as if you press the Change All button with the scope to the whole active document.
A similar code will do this for your GREP Find/Replace settings you already prepared:
app.documents[0].changeGrep();
How to save ExtendScript (JavaScript) code to a script file and how to execute that script file see:
https://www.indiscripts.com/pages/help#hd0sb2
This should work regardless what InDesign offers and is showing as current possible scope.
Regards,
Uwe Laubender

That's jibberish to me, I have no idea of how to do codes. However, I quit Indesign last night and restarted my Mac, and this morning, so far, everything seems okay. Having said this, it's probably a jinx.

MacOS 12.2, Id 17.1. Text editing so far seems to be fixed after a reboot, but the pink screen is back, as it is with Illustrator. Photoshop during all of this sitting back in a lawn chair sipping margaritas, shaking it's head.
(Happens mostly when I drag a file from the desktop or Mail onto the icon in the dock. In the case of the screenshot attached, I was dragging an image from Mail into Photos but brushed over the Id window in the background while doing it and Id went pink. Quality.)

I just called and received 63 (yes - 63) days added to my yearly subscription. I said, "Why 63 days - why not five months for a broken product?" and the very nice (he was) gentleman said that was all he was authorized to do. I see in a comment below that someone said to do this every two months. I actually downloaded Affinity Publisher today but really - I have over 15 years of work on my computer and back up that I wouldn't be able to even open again if I canceled InDesign. Basically, I'm screw2d!!! Good luck everyone. By the way - I am using a new M1 iMac that's linked to my old 2012 iMac. Problem occurs on each one. Pffffft!

Dear angelab29126336.
Can you tell me the number you called to get the "63" days added to your subscription? I'd like to do the same and also give them a piece of my mind regarding this situation (nicely). Many thanks! Bob

Hi Bob. I actually just called the billing department. I really think they all know about this. Must be like big posters on all of the walls or their screen saver. The gentleman was very nice, but can't do anything about it (he's billing) LOL! I'm also thinking this is mainly a Mac issue? Best wishes!!

How can these morons release an update that doesn't fix the problem. AT ALL. The sheer contempt for paying customers is mind boggling. I guess that's how things roll in a monopoly. Someone at Adobe really needs to stand up and do something, but let's not hold our breaths.

I am experiencing this issue too, with flickering texts and a boatload of gritted teeth. At this point Pages is a better option, as it's frustrating to write, resize or set anything. I have tried resetting TExt Frame options and ignoring text wraps, closing and opening inDesign and few other fiddles, but nothing gives. Would be nice to have a fix!

InDesign 17 does the same on a MacBook M1 Pro (Apple M1 Pro, MacOS Monterrey 12.1, 16 GB RAM).
The text reappears if I change the zoom factor and disappears if I start typing. The app is unusable this way.
Updating to 17.1 to see if it fixes anything.
All fonts are validated.

Thanks. It's infuriating. 17.1 still fails.
I can't believe I have to keep my PC to be able to use InDesign because it won't work on my Mac properly.

Apparently there's a second forum for issues/support? https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/20408851-indesign-perfo... .
There's a prelrelease. Their lead software engineer says it fixes the issue. Spoiler alert it didn't fix the issue for me.
