Unable to Save InDesign Files Directly to NAS Server

Hello, why can't I upload files to Indd when it worked fine for years. Most graphic designers and studios work with NAS devices. I can't save anything, I have to make copies and restore files. Can something be done about it? Thank you very much rh

Hi Adobe team,

I am having the same issue with my Indesign files (using a MacBook Pro). As an in-house designer, I work with a large volume of files, and it isn’t efficient to save them locally moving them to our servers. What is the current timeline for resolving this issue?

My current version of Indesign is: Version 21.2

Thanks
Selin.

Hi @Celine35709910p1p3,

Sorry to hear you’re running into this, I understand how disruptive this can be for your workflow. Could you please confirm the exact error message you see when trying to save files directly to the NAS drive?

It would also help if you could share details about the network path, such as the number of hops involved in reaching the NAS server. Additionally, were you able to involve your IT or network team to check if the connection and permissions are working as expected on their end?

Also, please confirm if this issue is limited to InDesign only or if you’re seeing similar behavior with any other non-Creative Cloud applications as well.

Looking forward to your update so we can take this forward.

Abhishek

Can you describe with detail your NAS and how it is set up? Some NAS are setup with software to backup your computer. Some NAS can also be mapped as a network drive allowing direct read/write. How is yours installed?

Hi @Relo,

We completely understand how frustrating it can be when something that worked perfectly for years suddenly stops.

Could you please share which version of InDesign you’re using and the details of your operating system? Also, is this issue happening with all files stored on the NAS server, or just a particular file?

InDesign can sometimes have trouble saving files directly to network drives. A common workaround is to save the file locally first, then manually move it to the NAS. Additionally, you could try checking if the NAS server permissions or connection settings have changed recently, which might be causing the issue.

Let me know if this helps, and I’m happy to assist further!

Best,

Dear Sirs..
We are experiencing the same issue with InDesign in our company. We always use the latest version of the Adobe suite with a monthly subscription, yet despite continuous updates, the problem remains unresolved.

Our team of designers works both on-site and remotely, accessing files via NAS. While Illustrator and Photoshop work flawlessly, InDesign keeps closing temporary files, preventing them from being saved. This not only slows down our workflow but also increases the risk of using outdated project versions, leading to mistakes and additional costs.

The NAS has been thoroughly checked multiple times by IT technicians, and network settings have been reviewed, with no apparent issues. Yet, after several years of smooth operation, InDesign suddenly started exhibiting this malfunction.

I find it unacceptable that no fix has been provided after all this time. We pay a significant amount for our Adobe subscription, and having to rely on workarounds like saving files locally and then manually copying them to the NAS is not a viable solution for a team-based workflow.

I've seen many other users reporting the same issue on various forums. Adobe needs to address this as soon as possible, as it is seriously impacting our work.

Please prioritize this issue and provide a resolution as soon as possible. We have been dealing with this for too long, and it's crucial that it is addressed without further delays.

Thank you!

@ML8956

Have you updated InDesign recently? What was the previous version?

InDesign become extremely sensitive to the networks so called "lag".

So even if your IT team can't detect any anomalies - and everything looks OK - it might still be "too slow" for InDesign.

What if you make some project completely local - copy INDD file and all links locally - and see if you still have a problem with saving.
