Video Audio does not play on EPUB file export

May 11, 2022 May 11, 2022

Hello

I am embeding a video clip into a document and then exporting as an epub fixed layout.  When I check the file after export the video plays but the audio does not.  When I preview the clip in Indesign everything works fine.  The video is an mp4 video exported out of premier pro.  I am using Indesign 16.4.2.

Thank you for any insight you could give me.

Thank you all for the great insight!  I was finally able to get it to work by re-exporting the video and then re embedding it.  I did not change any of the export settings(H.264, 48000Hz).  This seemed to fix the problem.

What is your EPUB viewing application?

Does the audio of the video work when you Publish Online the document?

I am viewing the fil on Apple Books.  I also have other audio only files embedded and they work fine.

When I Publish Online I get the same error.  No audio from the video.

I would also try to test the FXL EPUB file with Thorium Reader and Calibre e-pub viewer.

Also test on a Windows machine with Thorium Reader and Calibre e-pub viewer.

Could well be, that a new bug was introduced with Apple Books.

I cannot test that, because I am on Windows 10.

And as I already said: Also try InDesign's Publish Online feature.

Does it play properly in other applications? Try a quick export to Publish Online.

I would also try exporting from 17.2.1. You never know about these things.
