Why does an existing document take so long to open?

I tested it on a MACbook pro 2M max 32 mb ram memory and a MACbook pro 2.7 ghz Quad-Core intel i7 - 16 mb ram. Both are agonisingly slow. Have tried different documents, existing and new. Big and small, there is no difference. Have already refreshed the indesign prefs once, this did not give better results. What can I do?

Dear Steve,
Thank you very much for taking the trouble to respond.

Macbook pro 2M max 32 mb ram memory, with Sanoma 14.4.1 and indesign and Adobe Indesign 19.3.

So everything is up to date. It is about starting an existing document in indesign. Whether a blank document is or a large formatted document does not matter. A blank document size 210x297 mm takes 32 seconds. An 8-page document with import photoshop and illustrator documents takes 36 seconds to open.

I also have an older macbook pro with the same configuration that has the same problem.

I hope you can help?

Kind regards,

Bert van Meteren

Try standard troubleshooting steps:

If it doesn't make a difference, try to create a clean new account in System Settings and run InDesign there - will it make a difference?

Hi Leo.r
Thanks for your response.
I have reset the indesign cash and prefs on both Macbooks as the instruction. On the old Macbook Pro, the problem was solved immediately. With the new Macbook pro M2 Max, the problem remained. Then I created a new account a a clean install of Indesign. I did not load more as the default system fonts. the network was not connected. Unfortunately, the problem has not been fixed yet.
What else could it be?

Do you use a cloud service? (Dropbox or similar)

Take care that all files with linked assets are local available before you open that file.

Yes, I found it.

I uninstalled version 19.3 and installed the older version 19.2 indesign. Problem solved. It is incredibly fast now

Interesting... Good to know it solved the problem. Although it also means that 19.3 introduced some issues that, apparently, manifest themselves under some rare conditions only.

Are you saving to your local hard drive, or as I suspect to a network location? This sounds like network lag.

@Peter Spier already suggested network location - but how many fonts do you have in your system?
