Cell stroke colors are changing when copying/pasting tables within InDesign

When copying a table from one InDesign document and pasting that same table into another InDesign document, I am noticing that colors are changing from the original color to black.

I am working in the latest version of InDesign CC 2018, with CMYK color profile.

The table strokes are set at CMYK 65. 56. 59. 27, and when pasted into the other InDesign document it gets changed to to black. The only thing that maintains any consistency is the tint.

Am I missing something in the Preferences that I have or do not have selected? Is there an advanced option in one of the fly-out panels that is not selected?

Please help.

Hi BarbBinderLaubender

Thank you both for your suggestions.

The issue absolutely was a cell style problem. The tables that I was copying and pasting had cell styles, but they had been altered at some point in time without being updated. I have since updated the cell styles and applied them appropriately.

Now, all is well.

Thanks again!

Hi Kate,

how did you color the strokes?

Did you use a table style or cell styles?

I can recreate your problem if:

1. I change the table style [Basic Table] ( my InDesign is German, don't know exactly the name )

2. Do a new table based on that style ( that's the way by default )

3. Copy the text frame holding the table

4. Do a new document

5. Paste the text frame with the table

Why does that happen?

Because the definition of [Basic Table] is different in the two documents.
And if you paste the document's definition where you paste to are used and not the incoming ones.

What could you do in this case?

Best do a new table style with a new name out of the one where you set the color in your source document.

Load the new table style with the Load Style command from your Table Styles Panel to your target document.

To be able to see the style you want to load you have to save the document where you created it, the source document.

Regards,
Uwe

I can't recreate this, Kate. When I assign 65 56 59 27 to the row strokes, and copy the table, it pastes as expected.

Have you tried saving cell and table styles, and then giving it another go?

Hi Barb,

Thank you for your suggestion. I will try that out and see.
