P: Crashing when writing caption metadata

Participant ,
Nov 09, 2023 Nov 09, 2023

LR Classic is frequently crashing in the metadata caption box. I can't reliably reproduce the issue, it just works for a while then LR disappears and then crash report window appears.

I do notice the text drawing in the caption box gets a bit flaky. Odd or just deleted text appearing then disappearing. MacOS's new caps-lock indicator gets a bit flaky too, before a crash.  I also have dynamic spell checking on, but that appears to be stable.

LR Classic version: 13.0.01

Lightroom crashes when I hit the circumflex accent to enter text in the Keyword List or the Metadata section. Using Lightroom Classic 13.0.1, Sonoma on a Mac Studio M1 Ultra. A friend who has the same setup was able to reproduce that behaviour also.

P.S. My workaround is to write the text in another application then copy and paste it in Lightroom.

Adobe has acknowledged this bug, and hopefully it will be fixed in LR 13.1, due in a few weeks.

Lightroom Classic crashes continuously each time a foreign character like Á Í Ý is entered in the keyword section of LRC. I am on a recently updated iMac27 with Sonoma 14.1.1 and Lightroom Classic v.13.0.1. Updated this morning. The Lightroom Classic in this condition is completely unusable as software.

Hi Adobe

Endless crash reports have been sent.  I would expect an emergency Adobe team working 24/7 to fix the issue.

Adobe Lightroom crashes when foreign letters are used to write keywords WORLD wide problem. Sonoma 14+ and Lightroom 13+

Since this is affecting users worldwide it should be a priority to fix.  We expect that based on the subscribtion price we should not have to wait long for a fix. Or if not then a disccount for the time the software is unusable! Workarounds are not an option. Just fix the problem. ASAP.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography oh, I see, 13.0.2 is only a fix for the "Unable to advance to the next photo" issue. Thanks for pointing that out.

Same problem here on LrC 13.0.2 on MacOS Sonoma 14.1.1, when I press an accent key on my Spanish keyboard when typing the name of a collection. Already reported the case.

I'm having the same issue. I have a US keyboard, Lightroom Classic 13.2, Mac OS Sonoma 14.1.2.
I use the "US International - PC" input source.
When I type the tilde or an accent on the "Rename" dialog, the dialog goes away (like pressing Esc).
If I type it again, Lightroom crashes.

I have installed the latest updates to LrC and to MacOS, and restarted my Mac after both, yet LrC is still crashing while entering Title and Description text. Crash logs have been submitted. This is hampering productivity.

LrC Version: 13.0.2 (but it was happening from 13.0)

OS: macOS Sonoma 14.1.2

Mac Mini M2

I'm trying to keyword photos inside People option (O), but when I start typing a keyword in a photo, LrC  crashes.

This is started to happen after I installed version 13.

Please check.

Do you have any accented characters in the name?

So that one plugin, that involves the very metadata you are having issues with. what if you deactivate or delete it??
