P: Edit Capture Time displays times one hour earlier during daylight savings time

Community Beginner ,

Hello: I just updated to the 15.0 release and I think I just discovered a bug. When I click Edit Capture Time via the Metadata tab, whatever time I enter is one hour off from the time that shows up in the EXIF data panel (and how it sorts the photo if "Capture Time" is used to sort the library); therefore to get the EXIF information to show up correctly, I must purposely enter the information one hour behind the time I want it to be (see screenshot where I want 5:31pm to be the edited time, but I must enter 4:31pm to get 5:31pm).  -- Scott, MacBook Pro, Apple M3 Pro chip, macOS Sequoia 15.6.1.

Check the time zone settings of your Mac and/or camera.

Hi @Clay Austin, welcome to the community!
Could you share a few more details about what’s happening? Which version of Lightroom Classic and what operating system are you using? Also, have you checked the time settings on both your computer and camera? If you’re able to share a quick screen recording of the issue, that would help us take a closer look.
Thanks so much!

It looks like it has something to do with if the photo was taken during Daylight Savings Time or not.

Good observation -- I'm posting a bug report.

Metadata > Edit Capture Time incorrectly shifts times one hour earlier for capture date/times that are during daylight savings time.

Tested on LR 15.0.1 / Mac OS 15.7.1  on a computer running in time zone EST (UTC-5).  The bug doesn't occur with LR 14.0.  To reproduce:

1. Download and open this tiny catalog:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8rhi7mfqpruddisp75umu/capture-time-zone-bug.2025-11-12.zip?rlkey=91a8...

2. Select the photo "jun.jpg" and observe that Edit Capture Time displays the time one hour earlier (6/9/2005 12:30:22 PM) than the Metadata panel (6/9/05 1:30:22 PM) and what's recorded in EXIF:DateTimeOriginal (2005:06:09 13:30:22):

3. Select the photo "dec.jpg" and observe that Edit Capture Time displays the same time (12/12/2008 1:19:30 PM) as the Metadata panel (12/12/2008 1:19:30 PM) and EXIF:DateTimeOriginal (2008:12:12 13:19:30):

I moved the thread to the Bugs section and edit the title.

@ras.phd: "Status? I am having the same problem suddenly."

Adobe has marked this as "Investigating", which means it's filed internally. They rarely comment on if or when a bug will be fixed, however.

I'm reporting the same bug in LrC 15.0.1 running on a Mac Studio operating under Sequoia 15.7.1. Hope it's resolved soon.

Weird issue I've just started experiencing. I sort images by Capture Time. To move images, I will often change the Capture Time, using Edit Capture Time menu. This should bring up the current capture time and allow me to adjust it to a new time. However the time it brings up is exactly ONE HOUR out!

It's like it's stuck in daylight savings or something. I also rename images to reverse date time. If you look at the screenshot attached, you can see the capture time is 11:06:42 - but on the Edit menu its showing at 10:46:42

If I actually edit it and pretend the 10 is 11, it will actually be correct. But if I edit the 10, it will shift an hour. Any idea what's causing this - a bug perhaps?    I'm on 15.0.1  honestly can't remeber if it happened just before I upgraded to that. Previously on 14. It's not the end of the world, but  it is really annoying.

Hello.

We run a multi-photographer wedding photography studio, and our process for close to a decade has been for every photographer to take a photo of time.gov on their phone, after a wedding, with each camera body they used. We often end up with 4-6 different bodies for events, each with a photo of a phone showing the correct time.

For years, we've used the Edit Capture Time tool in LRC to correct the time on all the photos (in batch) by Camera Serial Number. This has worked perfectly, and we've never had any issues getting all the cameras to sync up.

However, with the recent update, we've noticed that Capture Time shown in the Grid panel (right-hand-side toolbar) is different (by 1 hour) than the time shown in the Edit Capture Time dialog box, when accessed. That's issue #1. Issue #2 is when we do manually correct all the times on each body like before, they're all off by 1-2 hours.

What has changed, and what are we doing wrong (if anything)? Has anyone else noticed this issue?

Thanks a lot in advance.

DJ

Same issue for me, and as others have mentioned, even editing the capture time by 1 hour to fix this issue only shifts it even more by an hour. Ridiculous.

This is quite unacceptable behaviour, most of us have used this crucial time management feature for a decade, no idea why suddenly it broke in the recent update. It impacts our entire professional workflow in a substantial way.

There is an additional issue here when using "Change to files Creation Date"

When you use "Change to files Creation Date" on a file the seconds sometimes change and the milliseconds are removed.  This file did not have its original capture time changed.
