P: Edit in Photoshop sends it to the Photoshop Beta, not 2023. No option to choose.

Hoping for some help here. I am on a PC and have the latest versions of Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. I wanted to download and try the new Photoshop Beta so I downloaded it from the Adobe Creative Cloud and it installed fine. BUT - when I use Lightroom and choose EDIT IN - ADOBE PHOTOSHOP 2023 it opens the BETA version. It does not give me an option to choose WHICH Photoshop version I want to use. Uninstalling the Beta basically kills the ability to send an image from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop at all and the only way to get things back is to uninstall the beta and then uninstall Photoshop CC 2023 THEN reinstall Photoshop. I'd love to play with the beta and be able to choose which version of Photoshop I want to use when sending images from Lightroom Classic.

I've seen some videos where the option to select which version of photoshop you want to use is selectable from a dropdown menu but this was on a Mac and not a PC. Any help is appreciated!

Greetings all,

The team has responded and it turns out this is a Photoshop bug. Rather than bury it in Photoshop forum we are going to keep this primary thread in the Lightroom Classic forum.  Once the PS team fixes the bug, the Classic team will update the implementation for the Windows instance.

Thank you for your reports!

Follow this thread for updates as they are available.

That seems to work.  Very annoying that Adobe released the Beta without ensuring it wouldn't affect other software.  Worse, they haven't fixed it over many months.

Mine is doing the opposite. I have it set to open in Beta and it says Beta but it opens in Photoshop. Will this be fixed soon?

See this video by Anthony Moriganti, it explains how to do it. I did it and it works.

When will this be fixed??!!!  It's SEPTEMBER!!

I just updated everything praying that this was resolved.  Now Lr only gives me the option of opening in 2022 or 2024, NOT 2023 which is what I use.  This is ridiculous!

That doesn't work.  Worse, when I updated the apps a few minutes ago, Lr deleted the option of 2023 altogether, leaving 2022 and 2024, neither of which I want to edit anything in.

Basically this is making Lr unusable.

@displaced7 Unfortunately you don't say anything about your operating system.

If you are on a Windows machine try the following:

Make sure yxou have installed Lightroom 12.5

Deinstall all Photoshop versions you have installed.

Reinstall the latest version of Photoshop Beta first.

After this install Photoshop 2023.

Then you should choose in the LR preferences which Photoshop version is to be used if you used the "Edit in Photoshop..." function.

This has been work for me.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 23H2 -- LR-Classic 14 - Photoshop 26 - Nik Collection 7 - PureRAW 4 - Topaz PhotoAI 3

Uninstall the Photoshop beta and uninstall/reinstall everything else.

This is why you don't use beta software unless you are prepared to have things go haywire.

Win 11, LRC 12.5, Photoshop 24.7, PS Beta 25.1.
I also support the idea that you should be able to see both versions in the "Edit In:" menu without having to go to Preferences and select a version in there each time you want to change it.

I have PS 2024 installed and I still have the same problem. I have no option in preferences to choose which version of PS opens. (PS 2024 or Beta). If I have both versions of PS open it does open in 2024 but I would still like the option. Any news from the developers?

I would almost be ok with that, but  Lightroom isnt giving a  beta vs general release of photohop. The only option is Photoshop 2024,  but lightroom opens the beta version of Photohop

@craigh47031661 thats because the beta is Photoshop 2024 - just a newer version than the current public release. Uninstall the beta to resolve.

@KR Seals

This worked! I'm on a Mac and I did all the uninstall/reinstall and nothing worked.

As you noted I went to preferences/external editing and the Photoshop version was Beta. I was able to click on the arrows and choose Photoshop 2024.

This fixed it. I think your reply should be chosen as the correct answer if other people are able to use the same solution.

Thank you!

So I followed your advice and uninstalled lightroom and photoshop. My problem was having my desktop lightroom choose the ps 2023 previous version and not the newer 2024 version. By uninstalling all three, (2 ps plus the lr) then reinstalling ps first, then lr, it fixed this problem.
