P: Flag & Color Label Shortcut Issues (Specific Languages AZERTY&QWERTZ)

Community Beginner ,
Oct 27, 2021 Oct 27, 2021

I encounter an issue with the latest update (V11) on shortcuts to assign a color label (6,7,8,9).
Those shortcuts won't anymore assign a color label, it will now only remove the color label.
The shortcut "Assign a color label and go to next photo" (Shift+6 to 9) still work well as previously.
Please fix this adobe, my culling speed depend on it.
Thanks in advance,

Bonjour, je rencontre exactement le même problème avec Lightroom lors de ma selection. Avez vous trouvé une solution?

@elodiem75212157, if you're using the numeric keypad on an AZERTY keyboard, there's a longstanding bug acknowledged by Adobe:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-flag-amp-color-label-shortcut-issues-specifi...

As a simple workaround, use the top-row number keys as detailed here:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-flag-amp-color-label-shortcut-issues-specifi...

For a more complete workaround, see here:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-flag-amp-color-label-shortcut-issues-specifi...

If your problem isn't described by that bug report, start a new thread providing much more detail about what's going wrong.

Hello,

I have the same kind of bug after upgrading to Ventura (everything was ok with Big Sur) on a M1 MacMini M1.

When I rate a picture with the numeric keypad in grid view with automatic advance, the rating applies to the current and next picture and it advances to the third picture ! If I use the normal numeric key (Shift+key), it rates correctly but there is no automatic advance ! When using the toolbar for rating, everything works correctly: rating and advance to next photo...

The same bug applies when setting a color. Numeric keypad: color applies to 2 pictures. Normal numeric key: correct color but no auto advance. Toolbar color setting: ok.

Lightroom Classic  13.0.1 (bug also occured before)

French macOS Sonoma 14.1.1 (bug also occured before)

MacBook Pro M1

Wired french Apple Extended Keyboard (also occurs with third parties keyboards)

Step to reproduce :

Be in library or develop mode, with thumbnails below, have the autoadvance on rating set.

Have your macOS keyboard layout set to french

Rate a picture using the numbers on the numeric keypad, the current and the next picture will get teh rating instead of just the current one. Which is super irritating.

With same configuration, same keyboard setting the keyboard layout to ABC (US QWERTY) will make it work ok, so no issue.

Issue only occurs with numeric keypad and keyboard layout ser to french.

No issue alos eve in french layout mode, if you use the first keybord row for the numbers (but in french its inconvenient since you have to use the shift key to get the number)

I'm convinced its a macOS bug, it alos happens in filemaker

see details here, with files to reproduce

https://community.claris.com/en/s/question/0D53w00006JLKMpCAP/scripts-launched-by-default-keyboard-s...

also I can reproduce it, with filemaker as LR doesn't seem to work with AS, with applescript, so no hardware involved

tell application "FileMaker Pro"
activate
delay 1.266667
tell application "System Events"
keystroke "1" using command down
end tell
end tell

here's the corrected applescript that works with lightroom

tell application "Adobe Lightroom Classic"
activate
delay 1.266667
tell application "System Events"
keystroke "1"
end tell
end tell

Since this thread was started, Adobe has since acknowledged bugs using the numeric keypad on AZERTY keyboards used by French and other languages.

A simple workaround is to type the numbers along the the top row of the keyboard, e.g. type Shift ! to set the color green.  Note that when you do this, the meaning of the menu item Photo > Auto Advance (Photo > Avance Automatique) is reversed. When the menu item is checked, typing Shift ! sets the color green and doesn't advance to the next photo; when the menu item is unchecked, it sets the color green and advances to the next photo.

If you want a more complete workaround in which ! sets the color green and Shift ! sets the color green and advances to the next photo (making that key operate like it does on non-AZERTY keyboards), see this post:

Toto riešenie s klávesou Shift je pre niektorých užívateľov LR dobré, no neviem či pre väčšinu. LR je hlavne na hromadné spracovanie fotografií, toto spôsobuje spomalovanie. Prip pár fotkách to môže pomôcť.

"This solution with the Shift key is good for some LR users, but I don't know if for most. LR is mainly for bulk photo processing, this causes slowdown. A few photos can help."

To avoid use of the Shift key, see the more involved workaround using the Any Shortcut plugin that I linked to previously:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-flag-amp-color-label-shortcut-issues-specifi...

Clearly, it would be better if Adobe fixed the bug.

I just had the same thing happen to me, when using capslock LR will star 2 photos at once. I wonder if this is a feature or a bug. But after Illustrator lagging, when I run the magnet app, I don't wonder anything anymore (I paid for that app -_-)

Hello

Thanks for your post which confirms that I am not the only user who has such problems.

I have updated LR to the last version and Ventura to the last version too.

Nothing has improved : I still have these problems and the only way to use the shortcuts is avoid the numeric keypad !

The screen recording and screenshot from original poster @RS Film shows they are running LR in French with an AZERTY keyboard. There's a three-year-old bug Adobe hasn't fixed using the numeric keypad on AZERTY kebyoards to rate and color-label photos.

See here for a workaround that reassigns LR's shortcuts to the top-row keys, making them act like the top-row keys on a QWERTY keyboard:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-flag-amp-color-label-shortcut-issues-specifi...

The symptoms posted by other users in this thread sound like they may also be using an AZERTY keyboard's numeric keypad.  If that doesn't apply to you, then please start a new discussion thread describing exactly your symptoms; include a clear photo of your entire keyboard and the results of the menu command Help > System Info.
