P: (Mac) People masks selections are not as expected (Entire Screen or Square Area)

This was originally posted under "Bugs" but I really want this to be answered as a question. I will be happy to delete whichever post doesn't fit under the best category however! Thank you.

When using Lightroom Classic 12.2.1 with MacOS Ventura 13.3 (on a Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020 iMac with the AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16 GB and 72 GB of memory)...

I am getting the entire image selected when I try to use the "Select People" then choosing "Entire Person." Lightroom Classic allows me to individually select the hair, teeth, eyes, etc. as usual but when trying to select the entire body, the whole screen gets turned pink to indicate that the Lightroom thinks that the whole picture is the person.

I've attached two (redacted for privacy) screenshots of the "Subject" masking that still works as it should and the "Entire Person" mask that shows where the entire photo area has been selected incorrectly by the AI.

Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks!

Great news, everyone. I just installed Sonoma 14.0 Developer preview on my 5k iMac AMD Radeon Pro 5700 8 GB and Lightroom masks now work as expected! All people and their features are identified correctly.

Thank god.

I'm not sure. To be honest I don't even remember how I got the DP credentials (I'm not a developer). But you can try the public beta for sure. I bet it will work. Sonoma will be officially released on 9/26 so it's not too far away in the worst case.

Thank you for sharing & providing some hope that with the OS update, there's at least a chance thie issue may be finally resolved for those of us still having this problem, even after the very last update of Ventura several days ago. Happy for those who did get resolution. Now will await the 9/26 release to see if that will finally bring with it a fix...

You're welcome. I definitely shared all of the immense frustration with this and hope this solves the issue for everyone. In the meantime, I would definitely recommend grabbing the public beta and finding out if it works for you. It's free and, at this point, it's so close to the release candidate that you're unlikely to encounter much in the way of bugs or incompatabilities with other software. Unless there's some mission critical software you use that is slow to release updates around OS updates, you don't have much to lose.

IT WORKED! I signed up for their Beta Program and decided to try the Public Beta (the Developer option was available to me as well but Google said public was better).

I am Thrilled to share that I just updated my OS to today's released version of Sonoma 14 on my iMac. The Masking again  works!!! It now separates the people groups into individuals as it did when first made available! I am soooo happy that it works as it is designed to do. It is my sincere hope that the OS update is successful for every single person who has been having this same problem!!!Thank you to all responsible, whether it was the folks at Adobe, Apple, or Radeon!!!!

Apple and AMD, for not timely updating the graphics drivers.

I posted too soon. I take my post of working back. Photoshop/Camer Raw masking is working better. Lightroom is still NOT working at all. It doesn't detect any People even when it's a studio portrait! damn, I thought they used the same code base.

It's straightforward to roll back to LR 12.5 after testing LR 13:

Yeah, you say that but when this issue first came up I rolled back to 11 And it was still broken so I don't want to update unless it's confirmed to be working.

Yes, it's easy to downgrade. But if adobe is as messed up as last time then downgrading doesn't fix the issue. If it did I am sure this thread would have been solved ages ago.

Hello again everyone! A few nights ago I just installed the most recent "bug fix" oS update (not the first one since our people masking issues were fixed in September)... and now THE ENTIRE MASKING TOOL SHUTS DOWN THE PROGRAM COMPLETELY in both ACR and LRC. Masking had been done successfully since all Adobe products were updated so the macOS update is the only thing that changed overnight when it started. Anyone else?

@michelegranja, to continue working with masks while this issue is addressed, disable AI masking's use of the graphics processor:
