P: "create virtual copy" from develop module keeps selecting next photo

Community Beginner ,

When I have several photos selected (two or more), and I "create a virtual copy" from the "Develop" or "Loupe" view, the current selected photo moves to the next or previous selection, rather than remaining on the newly created virtual copy. The new virtual copy appears, but I have to go back to it with each new virtual copy I create.

@Bob Somrak

I always use the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl+' on the PC. I only used the menu in the video to make it very clear what I was doing.

With Auto Sync off, only the 'most selected' is affected by whatever you do. If you right-click on the Loupe image, the context menu has 'Create Virtual Copy' - singular, so it applies only to the 'most selected' in the selection and is the same as the menu Photo-> Create Virtual Copy and the Ctrl+' keyboard shortcut. But, the right-click context menu on a Film Strip thumbnail has 'Create Virtual Copies' - plural, so it does the same as the other methods do when Auto Sync is on.

It is good that it has been worked out, but still needs fixing.

Edit: Turning Auto Sync on changes the menu items to 'Create Virtual Copies'.

Thank you guys for taking the time to look at this and reply,

I'm glad you were able to replicate it but I agree that I hope it gets fixed. I can confirm that this behavior is relativly new, I have used this method for years and it has only started jumping around within the past few (6~7) months.

As for my workflow, I select the photos that I would like to first develop so I can jump quickly between them with the arrow keys. Then as I develop, and I get settings I like, I create a virtual copy (using the keyboard shortcut "cmd+' ").

This has always resulted in the newly created virtual copy becoming the "most selected", allowing me to continue developing the photo on a fresh copy without leaving the "Develop" view. Basically, I use virtual copies to visualize my "snapshots" later on side-by-side in the grid.

It has always worked great for me until this issue appeared, and I figured it must be a bug but so far it remains.

Thanks again for your time!

Cody

I have a new observation that might be helpful; I was able to replicate this bug using the recipe:

1) Make sure "Sync Settings" is disabled (turned off)

2) Select two or more photos

3) Switch to "Library Loupe" or "Develop" module

4) Create a Virtual Copy (using keyboard shortcut [cmd+'] or [menu→Photo→Create Virtual Copy])

This resulted in the "active selection" issue occuring, however, I wanted to observe this behavior from a different perspective. This time I clicked "undo" and then switched to "Library Grid" module. From the "Grid" view, I used the menu to click "re-do", and watched the issue occur from this view.

My observation is that it appears this could be an "order of operations" error. The action starts by "de-selecting" the current "Active Photo", and attempts to move forward to the newly Created Virtual copy, however this Virtual Copy doesn't exist yet. Therefor, the selection continues on to the next available photo (this is why is appears to "jump" the new VC), when the Virtual Copy finally appears, it shows up behind the "Active Selection" (or in front, if there is no proceeding photo). If this selection action simply waited a step longer, the "move right" action would actually select the correct newly created Virtual Copy.

I have attached a screen recording of this observation, with a step-by-step replay included (don't worry its only about 16 seconds).

Thanks for reading/ watching
