P: "Print to file" in Print Module fails to export

I am running OSX El Capitan and 50% of the time Print to File fails to export the file. Have to try a second attempt which is always successfull.
I don't get any error message (also export progress bar is ok), it just does not save the file in the chosen location.

I can also predict when it fails and when not, the "Save as" window in the Finder is slightly different.

Am I the only one with this issue?

This should now be fixed as of the CC2015.6/6.6 update released today. You can find more details here: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2016/06/lightroom-cc-2015-6-now-available.html

I have the same problem, it's really stupid. I compose a lot of photos this way, this mistake pisses me off.

If you have complete system information and repeatable steps-to-failure, I would be happy to test it for you.

OK, so here is the thing, my Mac is a Macbook Pro Early 2015 in its basic configuration (128 GB, 8 GB RAM etc).
The first image is what I get when I click on "print to file" the first time (0% success rate, it never saves the jpg). You see that there is a picture in the folder already selected and viewable on the right in the saving screen.

The second image is what I get when I click on "print to file" for the second time (for the same picture). The second attempt works all the time. You can see that the save window is different, only the directory/folder is selected.

2012 MBPR 10.11.3

I found a way to make it fail. The Save Dialog differences were the clue. The Default Filename has been changed and that is where the failure occurs.

Steps to Repro:

1. Select Image - Print to File - Image Saves.
2. Select Second Image - Print to File - Change the filename manually - Image fails to appear.

Can you confirm that this accounts for your failure?

2012 MBPr - 10.11.3

I just tested 10 files and was successful 100%. Ten Files Printed - Ten JPGs created - all with the correct image.

Can you show me a screen capture of your Print Job and Page panels?

Question: Does it only happen when you type in a different file name than the default filename "untitled"

No, the first attempt is the one always unsuccessful, unless the folder where I am saving contains no other picture. The second attempt is still done on the same picture, I do not select a second image, I just click on print to file a second time and it works. Any clue? A bug of Lightroom or OSX?

If I want to make the first attemp sucessfull I have to click on the dropdown menu and select a different folder instead of "To print" and then switch back to "To Print".

Thanks

I cannot make it fail on the first save - only the second and only if I alter the file name. I have submitted a bug report and referenced this thread so hopefully Adobe engineering can determine if it is a LR problem or an El Capitan issue.

Depends what we mean for "first save". If your folder is empty and you are saving the very first image then it will not fail. After the first picture is saved, any first attempt to save any other picture will fail while the second attempt will be successful. So if that is what you meant we are on the same page. But please bear in mind that the first attempt (to save any other pic after the first) will fail regardless of the file name.

Great, we see the same thing. I don't follow you when you say "if I alter the file name". Assuming you saved the first pic as "Untitled". The save window will propose the same "Untitled" name for the second pic. At this point either u leave Untitled or replace it with any other name, it will not save. At least for me.

PS I assume there is nothing I can do right? Either Apple or Adobe will have to fix this? Is it safe to assume everyone has got this problem?

The 6.5/2015.5 release made yesterday does not fix this. Hopefully in the next release.

Nope - 2015.5.1 is the same as before. Only seems to print every other jpg. 😞
