Lightroom Classic version: 13.5 [ 202408062022-6258095b ]

macOS 14.6.1

When requesting an export file does not contain camera data the resulting exported file does contain these metadata. It is important to note that while the camera's EXIF space data is stripped, that information is retained and included in the resulting exported file in XMP.

Select an image choose File -> Export... to open the Export dialog

Choose to 'Export to Hard Drive', make required output settings

In the 'Metadata' section set 'Include' to 'All Except Camera & Camera Raw Info' and export

Open the exported file using Photoshop, use File -> File Info... to view metadata

Select 'Raw Data' to view  <photoshop:CameraProfiles>

Expected result is that the exported file doesn not contain any metadata relating to the camera, lens or settings used.

Actual result is the file metadata does include details of camera including make, model, lens and exposure.

This example is from a JPEG exported by LrC where 'Include: All Except Camera & Camera Raw Info' was selected.

The XMP tag photoshop:CameraProfiles appears to have been added in LR Classic 9.4, when embedded lens profiles for some new cameras were allowed to be disabled.  For such camera/lens combinations, the tag contains a copy of the embedded profiles (which are all named "Camera Settings"), and as David points out, it contains the make and model of camera and lens information.

I think it was a simple, unintentional oversight that when this was added to LR 9.4, it wasn't also added to the list of metadata fields removed by the Export option Include: All Except Camera & Camera Raw Info. The Camera Info export category includes information about the camera make, model, lens, and exposure, which obviously should include photoshop:CameraProfiles.  (The export category Camera Raw Info contains Develop settings.)

As David describes in his original post, a real-world example of the consequences of this oversight is that when a photo exported from LR with Include: All Except Camera & Camera Raw Info is uploaded to Flickr, Flickr will still show the camera make, model, and lens under its "Show EXIF" section:

Camera Profiles Camera Pretty Name - Nikon Z 6 2
Camera Profiles Camera Raw Profile - True
Camera Profiles Focal Length - 35
Camera Profiles Focus Distance - 10000
Camera Profiles Lens - NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S
Camera Profiles Lens Pretty Name - NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S
Camera Profiles Make - NIKON CORPORATION
Camera Profiles Model - NIKON Z 6_2

See the attached PDF for what the entire Flickr photo page looks like. (Flickr here uses the term "EXIF" in its common, informal sense to mean metadata fields describing camera and exposure information. It's using Exiftool to dump all the fields.)

@Rikk Flohr: Photography, please consider moving this to bugs -- it looks like a simple oversight rather than an intentional design decision.

I use ACR/Photoshop but the same problem exists with Save for Web. I had to write a custom Bridge/EXIFTool script to strip out the extra metadata.

The script I use is:

-EXIFIFD:LensInfo= -EXIFIFD:SerialNumber= -EXIFIFD:LensModel= -EXIF:Make= -EXIF:Model= -XMP-exifEX:All= -XMP-aux:All= -*history*= -*Derived*= -XMP-photoshop:DocumentAncestors= -tagsfromfile @ -EXIF:ImageWidth -EXIF:ImageHeight -EXIF:XResolution -EXIF:YResolution

Hi davidgordon,

Thanks for reporting this issue. But we are not able to reproduce this issue from our end.

Could you please share us the sample file in which the issue occurs. Both Raw file and exported file will be helpful.

Thanks,

Vidhya S

@Vidhya S , as described above, LR adds the XMP tag photoshop:CameraProfiles to the sidecars and exported photos from any raw for which the camera embeds a lens profile and allows the profile to be disabled. In my test catalog containing 22 camera makes and 276 camera models, there are 27 such camera models (the complete list is below).

To reproduce the problem:

1. Download and import this sample raw from a Nikon Z6 II:
https://www.dpreview.com/sample-galleries/0329383169/nikon-z6-ii-sample-gallery/1966978337

2. In Develop Lens Corrections, ensure Enable Profile Corrections is checked. Observe that Profile is Camera Settings.

3. Do Metadata > Save Metadata To File. Observe that the photo's .xmp sidecar contains the tag photoshop:CameraProfiles, which contains references to the camera make, model, and lens.

4. Export a JPEG from the photo with the option Metadata > Include: All Except Camera & Camera Raw Info.

5. Run this Exiftool command to observe that the XMP metadata embedded in the exported JPEG contains photoshop:CameraProfiles, which contains the camera make, model, and lens:

exiftool -b -xmp:xmp DSC_2674.jpg
