P: Unable to relaunch after File>New Catalog/Switching catalogs, or relaunching with certain plugins

Community Beginner ,
Aug 13, 2025 Aug 13, 2025

Hello, I just updated LR Classic from v14.4 to v14.5 on Windows 10.
I’d like to report a major bug:

  • It is impossible to create a new catalog from within the application (Menu > File > New Catalog).
  • It is impossible to switch catalogs (except by clicking directly on the catalog file to open the application).

The window App closes, then nothing happens for several minutes (Task Manager shows a "zombie" Adobe process still running) → I have to kill It to reOpen the app.

I had to reinstall version 14.4 and everything is now working normally again.

I am able to reproduce this on Win 10 and have logged a ticket with the team. Thank you for your report!
The workaround until a fix is implemented is to:

1. Kill the 'zombie' Lightroom instance in Task Manager.

2. Use the [Alt]+[LrC Icon Click] to gain access to the Create New Catalog/Switch Catalog dialogue.

For those Windows users on the thread, try going to File>Plugin Manager and disabling the LogiOptions Plugin. On my system, that cured the issue.  Other posters in the thread have identif

Hey @jacquesf88225662

I couldn't find a crash report for the email associated with your community account. Were you able to submit a crash report to Adobe? Can you private message me the email you may have used? +1 to @DdeGannes' request, it'll help us better understand what is going on.

@jacquesf88225662 , when you select quit do you get a popup.?
If not with LrC open go to " Preferences > General Tab > at the bottom of the Dialog box select Reset all warning dialogs.  Then try exiting again.
Do you get a warning dialog?

"Installed Plugins:
8) Tourbox"

These symptoms are caused by a bug in LR 14.5 that strikes many plugins, including the Tourbox plugin:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-unable-to-launch-lightroom-after-menu-gt-fil...

A couple Tourbox users have reported that exiting Tourbox before exiting LR avoids the problem.

Thanks Rikk Flohr.  The issue was resolved when I followed your advice regarding disabling the LogiOptions Plugin (For those Windows users on the thread, try going to File>Plugin Manager and disabling the LogiOptions Plugin. On my system, that cured the issue.  Other posters in the thread have identif).  All good

This too was the solution for me - disabling Logitech plugin.

This wasn't the first time Logitech's god-awful plugin (all their software is terrible, really, no hyperbole) has caused interruptions to LRC.

@JBedfordPhoto: "This wasn't the first time Logitech's god-awful plugin (all their software is terrible, really, no hyperbole) has caused interruptions to LRC."

Though Logioptions is indeed a bad plugin, in this case, the problem is caused by a bug in LR 14.5's shutdown that affects other plugins that have sockets open to external helper apps (e.g. Tourbox and Midi2lr).

Disabling Log Options Plug In worked for me.  Lightroom not re-starts after close like it it did in the past.  I am on Windows 11 PC.  Thanks you Rikk Flohr!

After starting the Computer i can open Lightroom Classic 14.5 correctly. When i close the Program and try to restart, nothing happens. In the Task-Manager i can see that there are two LRC tasks in the background process (one after closing the program and the second for  the restart). When i quit them in de Taskmanger it starts properly. Under Version 14.4  i had no problems. My System works with Win 11 pro, NVIDA RTX 3060 with the newest GPU drivers.

I tried some workaround as recommended in the past where this issue was also in discussion.

- Update GPU Drivers

- Turned off the GPU-support/Acceleration in LR 14.5

- Using backup catalogues

- Settings resetted

- LRC new installed

Unfortunately with no success

Same here. Only thing that works is to stop the process in Taskmanager. Very annoying

I have tried all the other suggestions that I can find in the community but still cannot get LRC to open as a normal application.  I'm not that computer savy to figure out some of the suggestions.  I am using LRC on a windows computer running Windows 11 and this problem just started about 5 days ago when LRC said it had a problem and had to close.  LRC was on the latest update at that time.  I would really like to talk with a Adobe tech.

Adobe makes it very difficult to get in contact with tech support.  They prefer that you get support from volunteers in these forums.  If you go to this link: https://helpx.adobe.com/support/lightroom-cc.html there is a small link under "Contact us" that will start a chat with a bot.  If you persist in asking for a human, sometimes you can get one.  Adobe keeps their costs low by taping volunteers to provide tech support.

I've been having this same issue (LRC 14.5, Win11). It seems it leaves behind an Adobe Lightroom Classic in my Task Manager even 24 hours after the last time I had it open. Workaround is to open Task Manager (Press Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task Manager <OR> Ctrl+Shift+Esc), Kill the "Adobe Lightroom Classic" process (R-click > End Task), then it launches successfully, but this is annoying to have to do each time.

LATEST

Hi all! The update to Lightroom Classic v14.5.1 is now available and includes a fix for this issue.

If you don’t see the update in your Creative Cloud app, refresh it using Ctrl/Cmd + Alt/Opt + R.

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for the update to show up.

Thanks for your patience.

Sameer K.
