Question

Crop & Straighten Tool very slow when Smart Preview is enabled and the image file is stored on a NAS

Issue:

  • Lightroom Classic Version Number: 13.1 (also tested on 13.0.2)
  • OS Version Number: Windows 11 23H2 Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Find raw file from a Fujifilm X-Trans 4 or 5 camera, such as the X100V or XT5.
  2. Ensure it is stored on a NAS (in my case, a Synology DS920+).
  3. Enable the option "Use Smart Previews instead of Originals for image editing"
  4. Import into your catalog.
  5. Build a Smart Preview.
  6. Attempt to use Crop & Straighten Tool.

Expected result: Image can be cropped and straighted/rotated in a responsive manner.
Actual result: The tool is very slow compared to using it on any other file format either on the NAS or on a local drive.

What is very strange is that is that the tool is very responsive on the file if any of the following are true:

  1. There is no smart preview available.
  2. The preference "Use Smart Previews instead of Originals for image editing" is disabled.
  3. The raw file is stored on a local drive (and Smart Preview is enabled).

Here is a sample raw file with which the problem occurs. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LSukJWPgetuvnSxkpQnaVvi6vbdS19t0/view?usp=sharing

Why was this moved from the Bugs board to the Discussion board?

I could not reproduce on Mac (14.3) or Windows 10 (22H2) using the provided steps.
Without further information no bug can be filed.

Ok how do I receive support for this then? I have been a paying customer for years and this is maybe the first time I've filed a bug, yet I'm treated like a bug myself.

Can you at least test with the same operating system as listed in the report? Windows 11 23H2

"Ok how do I receive support for this then?"
Have you contacted support?

"Can you at least test with the same operating system as listed in the report? Windows 11 23H2"
Also tested Win 11 - no difference in Crop tool rotation response apparent.
