Develop module Navigator shows different color then main image.

There are many threads about this topic like this one for example.

I purchased an Eizo CS2400S along with an EX4 calibrator and encountered an issue in Lightroom's Develop module: The Navigator image and filmstrip thumbnails display incorrect colors after clicking on an image. Initially, the colors appear correct, but after a brief loading period, they shift and remain incorrect until Lightroom is restarted. The Library module is unaffected.

After researching similar cases, I found that most discussions attribute this problem to a corrupted monitor profile. A common troubleshooting step is to temporarily switch to the default sRGB profile, restart Lightroom, and check if the colors display correctly. In my case, this confirmed the issue—Lightroom displayed correct colors with the sRGB profile. The recommended solution is to recalibrate the monitor to generate a new, uncorrupted profile. However, after multiple calibration attempts with different settings in ColorNavigator 7, every profile I created still resulted in the same problem.

After extensive trial and error, I identified both the cause and a working solution. The issue seems to stem from a Lightroom bug: In the Develop module, the Navigator and filmstrip use the monitor profile of the main display rather than the active editing display. In my setup, my main monitor is a 240Hz gaming screen with no profile assigned, which caused the color issue.

Solutions:

  1. Set your calibrated monitor as the main display in Windows display settings.
  2. Assign the calibrated monitor’s ICC profile to the main display (using a different profile won’t work).

Notably, this same issue affects the Navigator in Photoshop as well.

A monitor profile can get corrupted, but it can also be incompatible.

When calibrating, make sure to create a version 2 (not version 4) ICC profile, with a Gamma (not LUT) tone curve.

Adobe software tends to prefer these settings.

Make sure to relaunch LrC and PS if running after the calibration.

If this doesn't help, please go to Help > System info in LrC, click the Copy button, and paste in a new reply.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Maybe this is an AMD Problem? Wrong handling of profiles in the graphics card? If I dissable graphic acceleration in Lightroom its also fixed.

System: Ryzen 5900X - 64GB RAM - AMD RX 7800 XT - Windows 11 Home 24H2 -- LR-Classic 14.2

I took a small video to illustrate the starting problem/fix.

Filmed with OBS from my Eizo - my second monitor. First you can see the different colors, then I select a profile for the main Monitor. Photoshop works instantly correct, Lightroom needs a restart.

Per, I will try your ColorNavigator settings now.

I tried the settings, same Problem. As long as the Main Monitor does not use the same profile, the colors are wrong.

Axel I forgot you workflow question. I shoot only RAW. My cameras are set to Adobe RGB, the workspace in Photoshop is also set to Adobe RGB.

I don't see this on my machine, so I don't believe that's a Lightroom bug. And yes I use also an Eizo monitor that's calibrated with Eizo's Colornavigator 7. I use ProPhoto RGB as color profile.

Do you use any profile settings in your camera? These profiles generally do not affect RAW files. However, they do affect the .jpg preview that is embedded in the RAW file. These preview will be used in LR first until a 1:1 preview was generated or you open the appropriate image in the deveolp module.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 5 - Topaz Photo
