I've been trying the new HDR output for Lightroom classic, it's a game changer, I can't look at my SDR photos anymore.

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/hdr-output.html#

Which format should I export my photos at so that they can be compatible with instagram ?

thanks !

The first question is, does Instagram support HDR still image formats? I couldn’t find out anything about that. All I could find is that Instagram added support for HDR video in Reels earlier this year, but then people started complaining about how it works, and it’s not clear if they have said anything about supporting HDR still images. The first link from Instagram is a long list of challenges they face making HDR work consistently across platforms and devices.

HDR is not too hard to view on our own HDR devices, but it’s taking a while for social media sites and web browers to get coordinated on how to display HDR videos, and it sounds like they’ve barely dealt with HDR stills at all yet.

JPG P3 with HDR Output or AVIF with HDR Output and maximize compatibility. IG and Threads support HDR jpg with gain maps and native HDR avif images (but without a gain map, so on SDR screens they will be washed out). So, for now, P3 HDR jpg is the format to go until they add support for AVIF with gain maps.
