Lightroom Classic crashes on splash screen (Mac / Ventura 13.3.1 / Lightroom Classic 12.3)

Hi, for a couple of days, my Lightroom Classic has stopped working (crashing on the splash screen). I thought that the new update today from Adobe would solve this issue but it did not. I sat with Adobe support for hours yesterday and they even got remote access to my Macbook where they were able to reproduce the bug themselves. They tried a lot of things but had no success. The only thing that worked was to set up a new Administrator account on the computer (My normal account is also an Administrator account). They told me they had to investigate this more on their end and get back to me. Haven't heard anything yet.

Any clues? My computer is a 16" Macbook Pro with an M2 Max chip. Running the latest iOS and no available security updates. Have tried ALL suggested workarounds in P: LrC 12.2.1 fails to start/launch or is extremely slow launching.

Thanks in advance

Johan

Account/user rights issue indicated by logging on as other user

See:

(ref 1): Troubleshoot unexpected behavior in specific user account | Adobe

Document referenced above includes for MACOS possible solutions:

    • Grant read-write permissions on appropriate folders.
    • Re-create the Adobe application's account-specific preferences files.
    • Troubleshoot account-specific fonts.
    • Delete account-specific Adobe cache files.
    • Troubleshoot account-specific login items.
    • Reset the access settings on the user account's Library folder.
    • Repair the startup disk.
    • Use a new user account.

and, perhaps:

Document referenced above includes:

    • Reset the preference file
    • Install latest LrC version
    • Install OS updates
    • Troubleshoot user account permissions
    • Setup a new Admin user account
    • Start in Safe Mode to troubleshoot

My iMac is an entry level M1 with 16GB.  After the 12.3  LR Classic flashed on/off, LR would not respond, neither shut down nor navigate to develop /library.  I thought it had to do with the Apple OS update that preceded the LR CLassic update - after 2 days I reinstalled LR Classic from the Adobe website and everything works fine.

Same but I'm using Macbook air M1

after much research, resetting prefs, deleting various files advised on so many forums I contacted Adobe and they remotely controlled my computer - eek! - mouse here, mouse there, permission accesss granted you name it!!

To cut a very long story short the only solution i found to be able to continue to earn a living and using lightroom Classic was to downgrade to an earlier version 12.2.1 and it works fine with the exception of trying to redo all prefs and then trying to find non corrupted catalogue file - arrrgh!!

Good luck to anyone reading this but it was the simplest answer I could find..

Like the penguins waiting to jump in the water from a rock,, one goes in and if it comes up to the surface the rest jump in. Don't update untill you've seen evidence it works on your operating system / computer (-:

GoldingD , You're a lifesaver, thanks! Point 6 in ref 1 (reset the access settings on the user account's library folder) actually solved my problem and now I can log in again.
