Question

Lightroom Classic crashes whenever I go to Develop Module

I'm on a PC, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, GeForce RTX 3060, Windows 10

Everything worked fine until a few days ago, now I can sort or label in library, but the moment I try to switch to develop mode it crashes.

Nothing has changed on my computer that I am aware of (no new installs or plugins)

Thus far I have tried...

  • Updating Lightroom Classic
  • Rebooting
  • Optimizing my Library
  • Updating my GPU, rebooting
  • Turning off GPU support/processing in Lightroom
  • Resetting all LRC preferences, rebooting
  • Uninstalling, rebooting and resintalling Lightroom Classic
  • Uninstalling and installing an older version of Lightroom Classic

I'm at a complete loss and have images I need to process. If there are any additional items you can think of for me to try please let me know

I managed to work around. My Lightroom is in French, so hopefully i'll be able to tell you what i did.

Edit > Settings > Performances:

Use of graphic processor unit: inactive (this is the first drop down box of the section)

Hope this helps, and don"t know what it does to the performance of the computer, but now i can develop my photos.

@c0unt3rfeit , @mathyaskurmann , @Zachary349411294oj6

The likelihood that your failure is the same as the original poster's is small.  I don't see any actionable information in any of your posts that is required for diagnosing an issue like this.

Further:

We’ve reviewed the email address you use with this forum and find no crash reports in our system.

Did you see a crash dialog?

Do you use a different email address when filling out the crash report?

Was the crash dialog Adobe’s? Microsoft’s? Apple’s?

It is recommended you create a new post with COMPLETE information as outlined here:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-do-i-post-in-discussions-or-bugs/idi-p/13691887
and here
https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/how-do-i-write-a-bug-report/idi-p/12373403
with the answers to the three questions asked in this post.

Thank you.

Rikk,

Just like @Blake25959721yqfr I'm NOT getting a crash report. I switch to Develop and boom, freezes up for 5+ seconds and LR shuts down or it locks up my computer entirely. I've also taken the same steps to address the issue and have gotten nowhere. Also, the last time this happened, LR completely reset itself, as if it was a fresh install. Sorry for not posting COMPLETE information but what am I supposed to do if there's no crash report? 🙄

Hey, @Blake25959721yqfr. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out. Is there a crash report when Lightroom crashes? Please submit the crash reports to us: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html

You've done most of the basic steps. Besides Lightroom crashing, check the Processes in the Task Manager for unexpected read/write operations.

To begin troubleshooting, test some variables like:

  • Unplug any external peripherals & use wired input devices.
  • Unplug external drives.
  • Temporarily, unplug extra displays & only keep one active at a time.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

There is no crash report when it crashes, it just freezes for a few seconds, then closes.
When I reopen it doesn't offer any crash report, it just opens, and the moment I go to develop it then freezes and crashes again.

I finally got it SORT OF working by moving it to my tablet display, and then it seemed to work fine. But this isn't a permanent solution because I need to work off my main display.

The confusing thing here is that NOTHING has changed on my computer. The software has worked fine on my main display for years and multiple versions.
