Hi, I haven't used LRC since early December due to a bereavement, I open LRC for the first time a few days ago and was prompted to update my catalogue to V13. Well now none of the image previews are loading. All the images in the grid view are greyed out, I have to click on the image on the film strip and then it loads the preview. However it removes all the image edits! As though every image has been reset, all 37,515 of them 😬 But if I go in to the develop module to history all the edits are there.
How do I fix this? Adobe support have tried, they've taken control of my screen, attemped to fix my catalogue all sorts. I need help. please what can I do to fix this?
I have tried looking an another computer, it's still the same.
I am on Mac Sonoma 14.2.1 and LRC is up to date.
Image attached to show my LRC.

Do you mean that LrC prompted you to allow it to UPGRADE the existing catalog?
Had your copy of LrC just been upgraded from v12 to v13.1?
If so, perhaps LrC upgraded the wrong catalog. Do you have others?

Yes and I'm assuming yes to LR upgrading to V13.1 as I hadn't used it since December.
It was the cirrect catalogue and I have backups. but if I use a back up its the same problem!
Q1: yes
Q2: dont know what its doung as nothingvis happening.
Q3: Dont know why there are so
many missing images. I did a check for missing images when it started acting odd. Some images are on another drive. The test session was set up by adobe customer support.
Q4: yes it's the correct catalogue and folder structure. And yes there are more images going to 2023.
I will add that for some reason two of my collections both show that they have 37,515 images in, which is not correct. Don't know what has happened there.
I've not bothered turning LRC on today. My mindset is not in the mood for it. I will look again tomorrow with rested eyes.
But I hope these answers help.

This looks like a permissions problem. If you look at the Macintosh HD in the folder panel, then you'll see that the system Pictures folder is shown as missing. That is very odd, because Pictures is a System folder, so it should always be present. Check this: Apple changed the security requirements in MacOS Monterey and later. Go to MacOS 'System Settings - Security & Privacy' and add Lightroom Classic to "Full Disk Access" if it is not in there yet or not enabled. See Quick Tips: How to give Full Disk Access to Lightroom Classic on macOS

I've checked that. Permissions were on, I've updated it and added other adobe apps. That folder is no longer missing but the problem persists.
I've tried going back to V12.5 of LR and using the V12 catalogue and it's still the same 😫
I don't understand why it says there are 37,515 images in two of the collections when it's not showing any images in there at all!

I've tried this, there's no colour profile pop-up, it os set to Apple XDR display.
I also tried LRC on my iMAC and the LRC problem was the same.

Is this catalog corrupted?
Have you accomplished an integrity check? And before you do so, do you have a good backup!!

Sounds like a call to Adobe on Monday. Can another member advise the author on the how to and tips on that.

No, as far as I'm aware it's not corrupted. Adobe customer support had a copy of my catalogue that they repaired, but it still had the same problem.

It might still be corrupted anyway. What you could do is the following:
1: Create a brand new catalog
2: Choose 'File - Import from Another Catalog' and import your old catalog. In the dialog that comes up, choose to add new images without moving them.
3: If the problem is gone after this import is done, then use this new catalog from now on.
4: If your catalog was synced, you will have to enable sync for this one. And if you used any publishing services you will have to recreate these.

Seems it is indeed corrupted. If you can open the catalog, then try the opposite. Use 'Export as catalog'. Export all images, but do not include the 'negatives', previews and smart previews. Only export a catalog. Then launch Lightroom with this catalog by double clicking on it, and see if this one behaves properly and builds previews.

Well there's clearly something wrong. I am willing to try anything though. Thank you I'll try this later today as well.

Where is the catalog located, what hard drive? Or is it on a NAS? or is it on the Cloud?

It's been on my desktop which didn't dawn on me that it was on the iCloud, I've moved it now to a hard drive.

Another thing to look for, And I bring this up because of the very apparent date structure to your folder structure. Sometime that file name syntax ccuase a complexity that leads user or OS errors that lead to an oddity involving the OS vs LrC.
Check for what is called the capitalization error/problem

Thank you everyone that is leaving suggestions. I am trying every single one of them! I'm also learning the errors of my ways as I go!
Life is a lesson and losing 12 years of edits is a monstrosity of a lesson 😬

Hi, thought I would check in to say I am still here with the same issue! Adobe have attempted to repair my catalogue to no avail! I have been ill this week and haven't had the energy or inclination to look at this. So I have uploaded a video so you can see what happens. The image previews don't load, as you click on an image the edits look like they're being removed. They're all there in the history, I just need to go in to every single image and select the top edit!!!
I will look at this again next week as I am too ill to engage a brain cell, but thought I would see if there's anyone else in here that has a clue what is going on!

UPDATE, I fixed it!!! I hope.
I had tried using catalogues from my LR backups but that never worked, as I don't keep a lot of backed up files so the ones I had were all broken.
Yesterday I remembered that I pay monthly for crash plan, so I downloaded previous copies of my catalogues from when it last worked and went back to V12 LR. That was working ok. It took a bit of faffing as images I took in November & December weren’t on there. I hadn’t taken many images though so that was a quick fix.
I then updated LR to V13, tested that after the catalogue was updated to V13, all good so I updated LRC to the latest version.
So far it all seems to be working. It has been backed up to 5000 places 😬
Now I need to completely re-shape my LR. Having all my images in one catalogue is going to change.
My next question for anyone else that might now. Is there a way to get all your LR edits to show on the actual images? Currently everything is in LR, so if I lose LR (as I did here) it means all that work is lost. I haven’t been doing much photography this past year, and I’m well behind on what LR & PS can do. So I need to start again from scratch and do some learning and reshuffling!
Any advice, tips, videos, anything to help me get a more robust system would be greatly appreciated.

"My next question for anyone else that might now. Is there a way to get all your LR edits to show on the actual images?"
I assume you mean is there any way to get the edits applied to the actual images? No, Lightroom is a non-destructive editor, meaning it does not apply edits to the pixels of the original photo. The only way to do this is to export a copy of that image as jpeg, tiff, or psd.

Hi Mrs Coops! I have had the same troubles as you in regard to the above. I also had to roll back to v12 (much later than you though as I didn't see the problems until a few weeks ago) and thought everything was fine. However, my older photos are displaying these same problems, even though my more recent ones display the edited versions as they should.
Can I just ask you if you have noticed these problems with photos from a few years ago (in my case from 2017 back)? Are all of your older images displaying as they should, with edits reflected in the previews? (Unfortunately it is a bit hard to tell, because there is no way of knowing which images have edits! I found it through looking at virtual copies. I have posted on this forum too.) Many thanks for your time.
