Lightroom closes when try to use the maskin tool in macOS Ventura

I'm running Lightroom Classic with macOS Ventura.

When I try to use the masking tool in a picture, Lightroom crashes and closes itself.

Any advice about this annoying problem?

    I finally managed to minimize the crash.

    The origin of this problem is a bug in the masking tool, reported in this link: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/select-people-mask-crash.html

    Closing the 'People' section as suggested in the article, solved the problem.

    Good news that you're up and running. However, the document you referenced is specific a GPU type (i.e.integrated Intel Iris) with less than 2GB of VRAM, which is less than the minimum requirements. The underlying reason for your crash is different in so far as your GPU is not supported by macOS and hasn't been for 3 years or more.

      Compatibility of any 'old' non-supported hardware (as the GeForce GTX 680MX) is managed by OpenCore Legacy Patcher. So I suspect this crash reason is related to the NVRAM (although this GPU has 2GB).

      I've been using this iMac (and LR) with every macOS since Mountain Lion, and LR just crashed with the last (v12) upgrade.

      Anyway, I wanted to report it here in case it could help anyone

      Something isn't adding up with your 'System Info' for the GPU (i.e. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX) and having macOS Ventura installed. Apple hasn't provided NVidia support in macOS since Mojave, which is 4 versions back from Ventura. The crash log also puts a question mark over the computer / OS combination (i.e the crash log specifies

      iMac13,2

      which was an iMac produced in late 2012 https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201634

       

      I'm not even sure how you managed to install Ventura on Mac dating that far back.

        You can use OpenCore Patcher to install an unsupported macOS version on any supported Apple computer.

        Is similar to the installer of Windows 11 that doesn't check the TPM presence in your computer.

        I like Apple computers, but I don't need to change my 2012 iMac yet just because Apple says it. This 'outdated' computer works perfectly with Ventura.

        First thing to try when any Adobe application crashes is to reset your preferences so lets try that.

        Try resetting your Lightroom preferences:

        Quit Lightroom Classic.
        macOS: Press and hold the Shift + Option keys.
        Windows: Press and hold the Shift + Alt keys.
        While holding down the keys, launch Lightroom Classic.
        When asked, select "Yes".

        This happened to me on a fresh new installed computer.

        Lightroom is installed from scratch and no preference modifications have been done yet.

        I will try to enter Lightroom the way you suggest and report the results.
