lightroom library does not update files edited in Photoshop

Hello, 

I've a problem with files opened in photoshop from lightroom. Edited and saved (not saved as).

the modified file doesn't appear in the lightroom library. I tried synchronising the library but the problem remains. 

 

Lightroom and Photoshop are updated to to the latest version. 

 

Can you help me?

one moment, I happened to notice something. 

lightroom automatically created a ‘virtual’ folder renamed ‘RAW’ where it inserts changes. I've highlighted the new folder in magenta. Is there a setting to avoid this?

Based on seeing two {RAW} folders in your folder panel, I would have to suggest -"It's the old "capitalisation" problem, caused by Lightroom being case-sensitive, and the OS generally being case-insensitive. "

The procedure in the 'Correct answer' from Jim needs to be followed for it to be a successful fix.

Using the correct terminology is needed to understand problems like this.

Can you explain more your statements-  and provide some updated screen-clips of the Lr-Classic Folder panel with some image previews included, and Windows view of the same folders, including error messages.

"photos don't appear in the ‘CapsFix’ folder" - With the 'Fix' procedure the files are not physically moved to the {CapsFix} folder. It is only a virtual database change until the correct folder is restored in the database with the [Update Folder location] action performed a second time. [Update Folder location] does not actually move the files physically.

"Lr moves them to the library" - What is meant by this?  All photos are referenced in the Lr-Classic "Library". Can you be more specific.

"in Windows they remain in the main folder." - What is the 'main folder'?

Do you see any 'Missing' folders with the [ ? ] in the LrC folder panel?

 

Sorry to see your problem continuing. It is difficult to work a seemingly complicated procedure by posts in the forum, and perhaps I am not helping with my explanations.

 

Thinking of your original problem with two {RAW} folders, your fix procedure should have been-

1)  Create a {CapsFix} folder (visible in the LrC folder panel)

2)  Select the errant / out of place {RAW} folder, and [Update Folder location] to the {CapsFix} folder

3)  Select the {CapsFix} folder, and [Update Folder location] to the correct {RAW} folder. (Allow a Merge)

 

 


Hi Rob, your advice is very useful. Today I will try to register my monitor and then share the procedure. unfortunately I have not been able to solve it yet.

Hi, 

I tried both of your tips. nothing has changed. 

I tried an import of the file but it is considered to be already inside the ‘RAW’ file folder.

I have to deliver a job and to complete it I need the files in the lightroom library.

Before resetting the preferences, check the Sort order in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. (if you can't see it, press T)

LrC has a tendency to change the sort order to Added order, in which case the file from PS will be the last one in Library.

Change the sort order to File name, and it should move to the right location.

We're sorry for the trouble. Please try resetting your Lightroom and Photoshop preferences. 

 

To reset preferences in Lightroom Classic for Windows, follow these steps:

  1. Quit Lightroom Classic.
  2. Restart Lightroom Classic while holding down the Shift + Alt keys.
  3. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to reset preferences. Click Yes to confirm.

 

Alternatively, you can manually delete the preferences file:

  1. Navigate to the preferences file location: C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom Classic CC 7 Preferences.agprefs.
  2. Drag the preferences file to the Recycle Bin.
  3. Restart Lightroom Classic to apply the changes.

To reset preferences in Photoshop for Windows, follow these steps:

Go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

  1. Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings.
  2. You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
  3. Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2025 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2025. old), You can restore these preferences later if needed.( https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
  4. Restart the computer.
