P: Generative Remove Feedback (Lr Classic & Lr Eco)

This post applies to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products.
Camera Raw feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

I’m having hit-or-miss success with the generative AI remove tool.  It seems to prefer to leave any white object (like a hospital bed) in place.  I want it gone -- LRC wants it to stay.  grrrr,,,,

If you’re applying Remove on top of an AI mask (e.g. Background), see here:

If that doesn’t help, please post a full-resolution screenshot (not a phone pic) of what the original photo and of the result after applying Remove.

Really not working very effectively for me on larger dust spots.
I’ve had to send the photos to photoshop and use the healing brush there as it works much better.

Have you tried LR’s Healing tool or Content-Aware Remove (unchecking Use Generative AI)? They’re usually very effective at removing dust spots in scans:

For dust spots on the camera sensor, have you tried Remove > Distraction Removal > Dust?

I have tried this method as well as every other setting I could find and nothing was really sticking until I took to the photo over to PS.

Even once I’ve made the selection I couldn’t get the spot removed by adjusting the settings or updating the AI settings

@Dmarg Generation produced a distinct negative of the object instead of replacing it with the background sky.

It sounds like you applied Remove on top of an AI mask, e.g. Sky. Is the AI Edit Status button yellow?

Click on it and do Update, which will recompute the mask and eliminate the ghost.

If this doesn’t address the issue, then please post a full-resolution screenshot (not a phone pic) of what you’re seeing, including the Masking panel.

Thank you.  I actually discovered this solution sometime after my report and it worked. But it’s helpful to know that this is a normal procedure  to follow.  When I ‘ve used it before the need and the effects were not as obvious.

I do find it difficult when the full effects of changes made in (Generative) Remove are not visible until after exiting that function or, besides exiting, doing an Update in order to get an accurate depiction on the screen.  It adds a lot of steps when multiple masks and removes need to be done in a photo.

Generation produced a distinct negative of the object instead of replacing it with the background sky.  Not a problem seen before with fairly regular use.

@ali_9974 Generations are constantly pulling in more than the selected area, even for simple plain background cleanups.

This change for the worse was introduced in LR 14.5. Adobe has acknowledged this change as a “bug”:

and Adobe employee Sameer K posted on 10/29/2025, “The team has identified the issue, but the fix wasn't included in the Lightroom Classic v15 release. It'll arrive soon, as this issue goes beyond Lightroom Classic and also requires broader fixes in Camera Raw.” But no mention of a fix has appeared in subsequent release notes, and the bug hasn’t been marked as Fixed.

I recommend that you add your constructive feedback to that bug report and click Vote under the first post.  Also, attach screenshots showing an example -- examples carry more weight.

There’s still an inability or “resistance” to clean even/plain backgrounds, the AI always seems to “want” to add details to backgrounds that have little texture besides what you’re trying to remove.

It would be useful to have a prompt to briefly describe what is to be generated in place of the selection (delete), and it works fine, except for the fact that you have to click on the appropriate result a dozen or so times.
