There is no longer any on-line activation for Lr 6. To do the move, you will need to follow these instructions https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/ and then to install Lr 6 you will need to use the offline activation method https://community.adobe.com/t5/download-install-discussions/lightroom-6-on-a-new-pc/m-p/14638713#M580921
Adobe does not provide technical support for any issues regarding Lr 6.
To install Lr 6, use the offline activation method. https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/lightroom-6-sign-in-required/m-p/14822708#M376764

OK, I had been using the old version successfully on Win 11 for some time.A system failure required a rebuild and new SSD with OS. When I loaded a saved image onto the drive, LR was present, and launched once. After that it no longer launches, and at best gives the activation count exceeding error. While there are no other machines present with LR install, of course Adobe now states they cannot assist in any activation resets. Even on my Adobe account, I see "no activated devices" so there is no way to change it there. I tried reinstalling LR ( after using Adobe cleaner to remove, and closing the OOBE folder with an .old extension.) as a trial version and test, but that only lists my true serial number as exceeded. Adobe only wants me to subcribe, and pay them forever. I kindly repel from that. It seems trial versions can no longer be attempted.
I have been testing ON1 Photo RAW 2025, a one time license payment, as a LR alternative. It appears very powerful, works with RAW and other image types, can integrate to LR and PS if you have them, has more filters and effects than I have seen in other programs. If as functional as I hope, it will remove my need for LR entirely.

Use the offline activation method for Lr 6, it works for almost everyone who tried it. It is described and linked many times in this thread.

We're happy that you found something you like.

Are you sure it still works? It seems to refer to pages, resources and links I could no longer find.

I got my Lightroom 6 working after reinstalling it completely after disconnecting the computer from the network Internet. That installer was the first time I managed I managed to force the "offline" path. The normal activation dialogues didn't seem to have such an option, or I failed to trigger it.
I also found the community page that is now redirected elsewhere on archive.org. Might want to update the link.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
But this is worrysome. This appeared out of nowhere (I did move to a new computer half a year ago and maybe it was not 100% properly activate but I have been using Lightroom regularly since then until it stopped working yesterday).

I have been using Lightroom 6 on Windows since 2016 but today when I launched it, it demanded that I signed in to Adobe "to activate the software". Logging in worked (after getting an email with a code) and I returned to the launcher that demanded that I accept an EULA. Doing so closed the window but Lightroom did not start.
I have repeated that process, including the emails, three times, exact same process every time.
I found a 2024 link to a post about how to do "offline activation" but that page has been removed, and it also refererred to a user interface that does not exist.
I appreciate that Lightroom is no longer maintained, but surely it can't be remotely shut down?
How do I get my Lightroom running again?

i had a similar issue. The only thing that worked for me: starting the adobe application manager (is installed alongside lightroom). This will then ask to update the software - replacing adobe application manager by adobe cloud. But after i start lightroom and again need to login - but this time it worked.

Lightroom 6.6 no longer opens any catalog
Hello from a dinosaur on LR 6.6 turning on
Mas OS High Sierra 10.13.6
Imac 27 "mid-2011.
After having loaded on my iMac, a more recent catalog held on a MacBook of the same generation, from an external backup hard drive, it has been successfully working without problem for several days, but sudden Lightroom has been going out!
(I just pressed G see the pictures), and since it is impossible to open a catalog!
When I want to open it (photo 1), then at the opening attempt I see the nightmare panel appear (photo 2):
"During its previous opening, Lightroom left unexpectedly during the reopening of the windows, want you ... Bla Bla Bla",
Since at each catalog opening any, on any medium, on whatever medium, and even a catalog of ancient origin on the iMac have bugged the LR 6 app and I end up with the panel (photo 3) and it is the beginning of the hellish loop.
I really tried everything because I have known him quite well since 2012 !!
At the opening of a catalog or Application LR, I even have a 6.0 version which cannot open a catalog either,
Besides, proof that it does not come from my computer is that my "old LR 4.4", it works wonderfully but as there has been so much progress by going to version 6.6, 4.4 does not allow to work properly!
If you have an idea, I'm interested! And in any case thank you for reading me!

I can't see your file attachments (or anyone's file attachments) and so you need to include them via clicking on the "Insert Photos" icon.
Taking a wild guess at what your problem is, please see these links
See here for the Lr 6 downloads. You will need to have a valid serial number for Lr 6 when you install it.

Many (all?) of the links in this thread that point to the offline activation method for Lightroom 6 now point to something entirely different abpout downloading old Adobe software. The offline activation method for Lr 6 is not mentioned. Nor is Lightroom is not mentioned at all.
And, no one seemed to be complaining that the links are wrong, in fact some of the posts are marked correct, meaning when the links were put there months ago, people must have found the offline activation method worked because the links were correct at that time and explained how the offline activation method worked.
What is going on here?
I have the text of the offline activation method, so I can provide it as needed (but I don't know if it still works at all).

@dj_paige: "Many (all?) of the links in this thread that point to the offline activation method for Lightroom 6 now point to something entirely different abpout downloading old Adobe software. "
It looks like the threads in the Download & Install forum about Lightroom 6 have been cleansed. Adobe has purged posts about downloading old versions of Lightroom in the past, including ones that contained still-working links to Adobe's download servers. I'd guess they're trying to "encourage" users to upgrade to Lightroom or Lightroom Classic.
Meanwhile, these posts in the Lightroom Classic forum are still available:

Hello Everyone. Wonder if anyone can help. I am running Lightroom Classic v6.14 very successfully on a PC with Windows 10 v22H2, but realise that I need to upgrade to Windows 11 now that support is ending in October. I am planning to buy a new PC but does anyone have any experience on running LR Classic v6.14 on Windows 11? My gut feel is that it would no longer work, but if it can indeed be done, are there are any instructions as to how to go about it? Thanks so much.

People do indeed run Lr 6 on Windows 11. See this post for downloading instructions and for installation instructions. https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/p-information-regarding-lightroom-6-x-p...

Thank you so much for such a speedy reply. I was doubtful about it because my version of Lightroom (v6.14) was so old. Thanks for the links - I will investigate further...

I bought LR6 via John Lewis Partnership iin the UK and have been using it on an Imac. Unfortunately a series of problems last week ended in a reinstall from a Time machine backup and LR won't reinstall on OSX 10.15.7. So I tried to install on an older mini using OSX 10.8. It installs but, when I try to validate it with Adobe, the old version of Firefox ( and the other browsers ) won't allow me to connect because it is, "not a secure connection". It also does that with Apple (!!!), but does allow me to view the BBC site.
Is there another way to validate the install, This Imac secures the connection, just not the Mini.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Thank you for your message.
I have made a little progress, but only a little...
It has installed on the Mini and, after following the advice above, managed to get to the Adobe code generator page, whereupon a brick wall appeared in front of my face.
After signing in, the code from the Mini entered and the serial from the DVD likewise, it timed out "due to inactivity". So did it again more quickly, that time it was saying "invalid" code and serial number. Checked both, retried, same sequence of events. Wrote to adobe, it was bounced back as their mailbox was full... so tried again. With the same results in the same sequence...
Timed out, retry, invalid code and number.
Checked everything again, tried again.
Same sequence of results.
It has not been the most succesful afternoon so far.

Hi,
I had LR6 installed on my old macbook pro. It went to laptop heaven and the local pc shop apparently de-activated the serial number so at a later stage it could be reused. I am looking to purchase an old macbook pro. Is it possible to find out if the serial number is indeed still available to use ?, I don't want to buy the macbook if I can't install.
Hope this makes sense ?
thanks in advance
Tim
