P: New AI-powered Lens Blur (Early Access) available across all surfaces.

This post applies to Camera Raw, Lightroom Classic & the Lightroom Ecosystem products.

The Lightroom team is sharing an early look for AI-powered Lens Blur–giving you the ability to apply optical blur on any image regardless of how it was taken. Lens Blur is now available to try on all Lightroom surfaces.

How does Lens Blur work?
  • Lens blur applies a depth-based blur effect, similar to what can be achieved with real-world optical lenses, by using AI-generated or device-captured depth data (when available).
  • Lens blur will automatically prioritize focus for the detected subject, but you can also interactively adjust the focus distance. Precise focus range tuning is also available (currently desktop only: Lightroom Desktop, Lightroom Classic, and Camera Raw).
  • You can also further customize the Bokeh shapes, highlight Boost (desktop only), and make depth map refinements (desktop only).

Will my Lens Blur adjustments on one surface be synced to other surfaces? I.e. mobile to web to desktop, and vice versa?
  • Yes, all edits will sync. To revert settings, you can go back to previous versions or history steps, or un-apply Lens Blur settings.

Can I add Lens Blur settings to my presets?
  • No, presets and copy + paste workflows are not currently enabled for Lens Blur during Early Access.

For more information, please check out Lens Blur.

Please give it a try and share feedback in this thread as we continually improve this feature.

It's ok but I'd rather be able to apply lens blur to a mask.   The visualize depth section is hard to use if the subject I do NOT want blurred is hard to detect from a background due to similarity of color, etc.  I can't really use the brush because I can't see the image....I can only see the visualize depth colors.  You could also include an option to turn off the overlay which would help.

very useful and nice function.
readjust the focus using a brush, for example if a line is missing, this would make the whole thing even rounder

edit: I have now noticed that this already exists.
However, I would like to see more flexibility in terms of how strong the focus is

One of the issues I do have with this is it doesn't aways recognize foreground from background. Especially if there is a busy foreground that shows a lot of background through the subject, i.e. such as a fence or a row of small trees. It is a bit of a pain to try and isolate but it can be done manually. I have shots of subjects mid depth and it did a great job detecting and isolating in an in picture natural frame. However it did not detect laterally as well.

I love the AI powered lens blur.  Works so well with my pictures and so easy to use.  Very nice!!

I can only say that I love this new feature both in ACR and Lightroom CC.

I like the tool in generall, but the refine tools drive me ABSOLUTELY NUTS (!). Please add a brush with a selectable color to directly paint the desired 'distance' on a certain spot
