I've had a similar problem after updating PS to 26.5.

Please try this:

If you have installed the Beta version of Photoshop this can be also a reason for the issue. Try to deinstall the Beta by using the Creative Cloud desktop client. In several cases it can be necessary to reinstall the normal Photoshop version.

Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Application to uninstall Photoshop. When asked, keep preferences! After this reinstall Photoshop again.

If this doesn't help the nest step is to reinst

This problem typically manifests when the Uninstall of any version of Photoshop is the last Photoshop Install/Reinstall operation performed.  If the last whole-app operation is an install or a reinstall, it typically cures the issue. The Photoshop team is aware of the issue

It normally happens to customers who have more than one version of Photoshop installed or are running the current version alongside a Photoshop Beta version.

If you encounter an issue where PS will not launch on an "Edit in…"

Uninstall both, then first install Photoshop and then Lightroom Classic. That usually fixes it.

Same here... However an Opened Smart objects don't save back to the Lightroom Catalog. the file is saved to the folder on the my Mac but doesn't register with Lightroom. I'm pretty sure the issue isn't with Lightroom it's with Photoshop v 26.5 which I udated to 3 days ago. Just as an FYI the error in Photoshop is a "Error 21: undefined is not an object. Line 1 ->"

I've tried Creating a new Cartilage / Resetting Preferences on the new Catalogue / uninstalling both applications. The only thing I haven't tried is downgrading Photoshop. - CES

Lightroom Classic (14.2; Windows 11) using Edit In would open Photoshop (2025 or beta) and transfer the image(s); after modifications in Photoshop, saving/closing would save and return the  modified image to Lightroom.  Last used this process successfully on Wednesday.  Yesterday (Thursday) and currently, Lightroom will open Photoshop (either 2025 or beta) but does not transfer the image.  I did manage to transfer one image using Open as smart layer, but after modifying it was unable to save/close (generated an error message with loss of modifications).  Lightroom successfully performs the birectional data transfers using Edit In with at least two non-Photoshop applications.  I think there were some recent Photoshop updates?  Suggestions?

This worked for me:

Uninstall both versions of Photoshop beta / current working build.

Reinstall the older version of PS 26.4.1

I didn't reinstall the beta...

and photoshop beta

That may be key to showing this as a bug either in the released or the beta version. I would not be surprised if only members with the beta have this issue. Looks like at least three members so far. Mind you Adobe may not consider it a bug if beta is involved. This would not be the first time an issue showed it's ugly head for combined official and beta members.

I've been round tripping from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop for years. Yesterday in the middle of a project LRc stopped asking if I wanted to send a copy (Sony ARW copy as tiff and send is what usually do) and now opens PS but not the file. I can export as DNG, open in PS and then import psd. Both PS and LRc up to date. The only thing I get from Adobe search is uninstall and reinstall LRC.  Doesn't make sense.  I did reboot my computer and that didn't help.

it's not you. There are half a dozen threats on this issue within the last few hours.

work around which really sucks is to command or control + X to open the image as a smart object. However, the file is saved to the folder, but does not show up in Lightroom

at some point today. Adobe will notice these threads and combined them.

Hey @jwkiker

Can you try uninstalling and installing both apps, this is the first thing we usually try in this case. Also, what version of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop are you using?

I see that Adobe announced PS  26.5 two days ago.

Have you updated?

If so, does rolling back help?

And do you have a BETA PS (been occasionall issues at PS or LrC updates with existing BETA PS installed)

I've the latest version of lightroom as well as photoshop and before the minor update the systems were working smooth. I was able to bring photos directly into photoshop and start working. but now I cannot do the same using the edit in feature. The moment I access it, it opens photoshop but nothing happens. It fails to bring the photo over to this software.

The usual fix for this is to reinstall LrC. Have you tried this?

When I try to export a photo from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop, I get an error message saying "Lightroom Classic and Adobe Photoshop 2024 are having issues connecting.  Please reinstall Adobe Photoshop 2024 and try again".  I am using the latest versions of each through the Creative Cloud app.  If I open Photoshop Beta before I try the "edit in" function, it asks if I want to use that instead.  If I open Photoshop 25.12.0 before exporting, LR does not recognize it being open and I still get the original message.  I rolled back LR to the previous version, and the same thing happens.  In preferences in LR, the external editor only list Photoshop 2024 and Photoshop Beta as options.  This is happening on both my desktop and laptop Windows 11 computers.

Did you have the beta version installed?? Because just uninstall / reinstall didn't work for me.

What did work was:

Uninstall both versions of Photoshop

Reinstall the older version of PS 26.4.1

I didn't reinstall the beta...
