With the new update, when using Select Sky or Select Subject, i get an unexpected error message saying something went wrong and the request could not be completed.
With the latest LrD 7.0, LrClassic 13.0 and ACR 16.0 release, here is some additional workaround that you can try:
If you encounter GPU driver issues while using ML features in LrClassic/LrD/ACR, please try to update to the latest macOS version or if you are on a Windows machine, follow https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html to update your machine to the latest GPU driver and see if the problem resolves itself.

Just purchased a new computer (Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1) and downloaded the most recent version of Lightroom (11.4), and now my Select Subject mask only will work once after opening the program (for one image).
After the first image, trying to us the Select Subject mask on the following image and any image after that will display an error message ("Something Went Wrong: There was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed.").
If I close the program and reopen, the same thing will happen where I can use the function for one image before an error message pops up on all of the following attempts.
I brought my computer into Geek Squad, since this began happening the DAY after I purchased my new computer, and after checking it in for 3 days they tried multiple things to make it work. It "worked" a few times, but once I brought it home the program started doing the error message again. The tec at Geek Squad said that if it were to happen again I should contact Adobe because it would most likely be something with the software.
HELP! I use the select subject mask VERY frequently, so this is a huge inconvenience to have this occur.

Yes I have the same issue with my, new HP. AMD Radeon Graphics. Ryzen 5000 sries 7. I can only select one time. After that only error messages.

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs.

Hi,
Is there a fix for this yet? I am experiencing the same issue, "Something went wrong. There was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed."
This only started happening after the new lightroom update. My laptop is new by 1 month so very highly unlikely the GPU requires updating however i followed what others have mentioned earlier in this thread about updating the GPU - no fixing the problem :"In general, please follow https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-cc/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html#solution-4 to update your system with the latest GPU drivers from the respective vendor."
If i turn off 'use graphics processor' in preferences - select subject works however lightroom becomes unusable. Can you please advise me of a fix. It was working completely fine before the lightroom update. Maybe it is a problem with the new update which requires fixing?

@Alex251452159122, try rolling back to LR 11.3. Most of the reports of this error are resolved by updating old graphics drivers, but a smaller number of people have (like you) reported that problems started with LR 11.4 or 11.4.1.
Let us know if that resolves your issue. Also, please do Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire results here. That will let us know the precise graphics hardware and driver version, to help identify potential patterns with this problem.

I've been experiencing this as well, but I don't believe it is a graphics card issue but rather a glitch in LRC since it seems to come and go at random times... most of the time this feature works just fine, and it always works when selecting any of the other mask options including complex skies. It seems that selecting the subject is where the issue is. Any other ideas with this problem? Anyone know if Adobe is addressing the issue?

Random behavior can just as likely be a bug in the graphics drivers as in LR itself. Please do the menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the results here, so we can see precisely which hardware and software versions you're running -- this will help Adobe troubleshoot the issue.

I am also having the same issue when i try and use the mask subject tool, i am getting "unexpected error" message. I have updated the program and my windows. Restarted, i also tried to update graphics card with no luck

Using LrC 11.4.1 - The latest update.
While trying the Sky Detection or Subject Detection mask, I am getting the following error.
"There was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed".
- Getting this only with Sky and Subject masking. All other masks are working fine.
- Getting this only from this afternoon. Working fine and all of a sudden started getting this.
- Checked with the photos in which I had already used these masks. It is all there and it is even letting me duplicate or recreate these masks for photos in which this is already used. Only in unedited photos I am facing this issue.
- Tried uninstalling and reinstalling LrC, but no joy.
- Adobe support person tried everything he could, including uninstalling the entire Creative Cloud suite, but was unable to fix this problem.
Is anyone else facing this issue?

@Trails of a Traveler, most likely you have an out-of-date graphics driver. Update it by going directly to the manufacturer's web site, as described in detail here:

That fixes the issue for most people. If it doesn't fix your issue, please do the menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire output here.

If this doesn't help, you should try is to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.
Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

I have suddenly started experiencing the same problem... when I try and Select Sky or Select Subject, I get an error message that says "Something went wrong. There was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed." I have checked and my drivers are up to date. I may as well cancel my subscription as I am paying for something that is now not working. So frustrating. Is Lightroom working on a fix? How do you get Lightroom attention to address this issue urgently?

I am running a Dell Latitude 9420 AND a Dell Latitude 7400. The 9420 is Dell's best model Latitude. I have an i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and an integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics card. My system is a reasonably fresh build and has little else on it, other than Office and ESET antivirus. I have never encountered an issue with ESET and have used it for years. When I go into the Develop module, the Basic tab, and click on the Mask gear icon, I get a submenu and two options there are Select Subject and Select Sky. Neither of these work for me. Lightroom attempts to select but never completes. In Task Managerr the GPU % is <= 3%. I am reasonably computer literate but have no idea how to troubleshoot this issue. I have also noticed that closing Lightroom does not always "close" Lightroom and I have to End Task in Task Manager bebore I can open it again. Any have a solution or some good troubleshooting steps? BTW, I have the same issue on my Latitude 7400 with a different Intel integrated video card.
