Print Module: Identity Plate text box no longer shows up, can't move text

I'm seeingt a bug in LR Classic Print Module's Identity Plate. Now that I've upgraded to Big Sur (11.5.2), I can no longer select the text to edit in a text box. The text shows up when I add it in the Idendity Plate panel window, but then I cannot select it on the image, so I can't move it. Useless this way, since it just shows up over the middle of the photo.  Is anyone else having this problem?

This is the second, and probably more serious of the Big Sur Print Module bugs. The other one is that the image has a color shift and desaturates when viewing in the Print Module.

I'm on an M1 iMac, MacOS 11.5.2, v10.4 LR Classic.

@caroline_6444

You’ve posted to an ancient thread. It is highly unlikely that the issue described in this thread, though not impossible, is the same one you are currently experiencing. Rather than resurrect an old thread that is seemingly similar, you are better off posting to a new thread with fresh, complete information, including system information, a complete description of the problem, and step-by-step instructions for reproduction.

If the issue is the same, we will merge you back into the appropriate location.

This thread will be locked.

Thank you!

I am using LC 14.3.1 and started having the exact same issue with the Identity Plate. So strange.

The Mac interface has different Menus to Windows versions, but you must have (somewhere) a menu item to edit the ID Plate. (and Watermark presets)

Your ID currently just shows "Lightroom Classic".

This screen-clip is from my Print module.

Ah, yes, I do see it. It's under the "Lightroom Classic" menu. I changed some things in the Editor window that pops up, created a "Personalized" ID plate, etc. Got my hopes up, but no change, unfortunately. I also tried a graphical ID plate, but that behaved just the same way -- don't see it at all in Single Image mode.

@acharnas Sorry that I am totally 'stumped' (as in the cricket game) and out of suggestions.

Has anyone suggested updating the Graphic Card Drivers?

I can only refer you back to Rikk Flohr for further advice.

@acharnas Can you post some screen-clips of your Identity Plate EDITOR?

Include the IP Editor dialog that you see from the top MENU: Edit > Identity Plate Setup... as well as the ID Plate edit screen from the Print  module page.

And show us how you 'Save' an ID Preset in the Editor-

I am interested for see Fonts used, Font Size, Color, etc. And show the ID Plate Presets you already have listed as 'Saved'.

I am curious about your problems!

Thanks for following up, Rob. Here are the two screen shots. I've played with various fonts, sizes and colors, and these don't seem to matter. I haven't ever saved an ID Plate, so don't have any presets. (I usually use it to print a date on a photo, so this is always changing.) Let me know if there's anything else that may be a clue for you.

The mystery continues!

Your ID Plate Editing window looks OK, but I am surprised that you do not save at least one or two ID Plates as Presets. I suggest you try and save a Preset- see if it changes your ability to move & resize if you select the IP Preset in the Print module.

I might suggest using a larger font. The ID Plate on the print can always be sized down.

Have you edited an ID Plate from the top menu so that you see the ID Plate to the left on the Module menu bar?

I played around for a minute or two with these results- Note the ID above! (I also like Papyrus font 🙂  )

I saved this as a Preset. And it can be moved and resized on the print (but not edited on the print! except by [Double-Click] for the Edit window.).

On the image in a print-

Because it is white text- it will not show on the white paper border-

I can however 'override' the color-

Thanks for replying. I would really like to see you get this working.

You certainly have some weirdness going on, and I am out of suggestions.

But while mucking about testing and trying different IDs I saw this-

Changing ID Plate for the print gave me the 'Not Responding' message a few times.

Changing from [Single Image...] to [Custom Package] changed the ID Plate shown  (ie. not the same ID)

I cannot replicate your blank ID Plate 'selector' window (yours appears checkered pattern!- a Mac thing?)

My ID Plate will always appear in [Single Image...] layout (unless I drag it off the page).

And I was reminded that the option [Render on every image] is intended for the 'Picture Package' layout.

You have re-installed (and reset preferences?)  which would often fix any weirdness. I might also suggest a 'wipe clean' with the Cleaner Tool Creative Cloud

And that @Rikk Flohr: Photography might keep looking at your problems.

I just upgraded to LR Classic v11. I was hoping, hoping, hoping my Library module bugs would have been fixed.

But they are still there. I can't select the ID text in Single Image, and when I add a Stroke Border (at certain photo sizes), the color and saturation change (to duller).

I know at least the second problem is widespread. Hard to believe I'm the only person with the first problem, but in any case nothing I have done fixes it.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography  Rikk, what can I do next? Is there anything more I can send to adobe to help them debug this. I use ID text quite often, especially on photos of kids for the date. It is very frustrating not having that feature available anymore.

Weird!  If a Preferences reset did not fix.

Perhaps @Rikk Flohr: Photography  can suggest more?

I am using 11.5.2 with LrC 10.4 and it is working as expected.

Single click enables scale and move option. Identity plate is movable to any part of the image.

If preference file reset (below) does not work.

This procedure works for both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Desktop.

If you are using Lightroom Desktop it can change the location of your local storage. Please review this setting after resetting preferences.

Reset Procedure:

1. Close Lightroom.

2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.

3. Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.

4. Close Lightroom.

5. Restart Lightroom.

then a next good step is a clean reinstall

Clean Lightroom Install Procedure

Close Lightroom

Restart the computer

Use the Adobe Creative Cloud App to uninstall Lightroom

Restart the computer

Install Lightroom via the Creative Cloud App without launching any other programs.

Restart the computer

Launch Lightroom

Wait 5 minutes

Thanks, Rickk, I'll try that. BTW, are you using an M1 mac? I am, and that may be the probleml, if it's not something in the preferences file.

I am not able replicate what you are seeing.

Steps taken:

  1.  Create Text-based Identity Plate
  2. Go to Print Module
  3. Click Identity Plate Check Box
  4. Choose Main Identity Plate
  5.  (Renders on Image)
  6. Choose Edit from Identity Plate picker
  7. Change text
  8. (Image updates with changes)

If following my steps doesn't work for you I would recommend a preference file reset. If your steps are different, please list them in your reply.  You could include a screenshot of the Panel in Print Module as well.

This procedure works for both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Desktop.

If you are using Lightroom Desktop it can change the location of your local storage. Please review this setting after resetting preferences.

Thanks, Rikk. For me, steps 1-8 also work. I can select edit in the IP panel and change the text. The image updates with the new text. However, I can then not select the text on the image, and therefore can't move it from the center of the image.

I'll try resetting preferences. What exactly is in the preference file that then gets removed?

Info about Preference file in this link-  Make a backup of the Preferences file before resetting in case you want to reinstate it.

PREFERENCES RESET

I am curious about your problem. You state-

"I can then not select the text on the image,..."

You cannot 'select the text' but you can left-click on the ID plate which then shows the confining box that will drag/move if you hold down the left mouse button.

I might be wrong! but are you sure you are working with an Identity Plate?

Your symptoms (shows up over the middle of the photo) sound very much like a Watermark situation. The position of watermarks are determined in the Watermark Preset. I have no problem moving an ID Plate on a print in LrC v10.4

Color shift:  Try the suggestions by @TheDigitalDog at -  https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/preview-colors-switch-to-a-very-dull-desaturated-color-while-editing-but-the-image-is-really-fine/m-p/11688264#M216836

No, it's definately the ID Plate. Never saw anything like this previously, until I moved to the new imac and BigSur.
