Well I loved AI masks and the ability to batch edit for efficiency. Now for some reason I have to 'update AI settings' on every photo after the mask has been copied. I can't copy and paste settings of masks (only does one picture at a time even if I've selected more). I've tried different hacks from these forums. NOTHING! I'd be so grateful for a solution. It used to be that I could edit one picture with masks, the copy those settings to the following ten pictures. Now for some reason it's not possible. ANY suggestions welcome!!! Thanks!!!

separate problem with none of the presets or presets i have created functioning. get the same error message: "some masking models failed to download. please try again later." this has persisted for weeks, later never comes.

@naldeau49,: ""some masking models failed to download. please try again later."
These are different symptoms than those described by @thav, and the potential solution I described for him likely doesn't apply to you.

Restart LrC, then leave it alone for some time. How long? I do not know. Several variables. Issue is part of an update now takes on occasion two install periods. This could take hours
Oh, and not mentioned in the link below, but pause any sync to/from cloud while doing this. An Adobe fouled up cloud sync could bring down a install over the internet down to its knees.
Now if you get a Downloading Masking models screen, that gets stuck, then you may need to /uninstall LrC/restart computer/install LrC/

@thav, these symptoms can occur when LR can't write the .lrcat-data file for some reason, either because LR has corrupted it or there is a permissions issue. LR stores computed masks in that file. Try these steps:
1. In LR, do Edit > Catalog Settings > General > Show. That will open Windows File Explorer on the current catalog folder.
2. Exit LR.
3. Move the file <catalog>.lrcat-data to the Desktop.
4. Start LR.
5. In Library Grid view (not Loupe view), select all photos and do Photo > Develop Settings > Update AI Settings. That will recompute all the AI masks, which could take a while. But it won't update Generative Removes, so you'll have to go to each photo with Remove, click on Remove, and then Update.

But I don't want to have to store my catalog on my desktop? I keep it on external drives?

Wondering if I shouldn't delete Lightroom from my desktop (since the catalog and all files are on an external) and then download LR Classic again so as to refresh it all...if that might fix it.

"But I don't want to have to store my catalog on my desktop? I keep it on external drives?"
Step 3 of my troubleshooting steps was:
3. Move the file <catalog>.lrcat-data to the Desktop.
That moves one particular file out from your catalog folder, leaving all the rest of the catalog folder where it currently resides (on external drives). You could simply delete that file into the Recycle Bin instead.

Hi Thav, did this solution work for you? I updated LR and am having the same issue. Non of my masks work at all, not even I created on one photo 😞 Also, did you move the LR catalogue back to its original home off desktop? thank you

I did step 1 and 2 of Johns post above, then stopped to perform a backup......then strangley it started to work again. Also, these take up allot of memory, so please ensure you have lots of space on the harddrive you have your catalogues in and do a PC cleanup if you need to. I archived a bunch of stuff and ensured I had at-least 30-40% free on my drive, and LR is also working allot faster now. These are just my thoughts and things I have done that helped me, unsure if it is a fix though.

I used the tips that John posted here, but it's still not working.
Now thinking about removing the AI masks and upload them again in the catalog i'm currently using.....

Fingers crossed Iris, I really hope this works. If you may test resetting a couple of images and trying again also. It's frustrating I know.
