Please be more specific. What do you mean with "extremly slow" and "unusable"?
What is slow?
Which function(s) is/are slow?
Unfortunately you haven't given us any detailed description about your problem and no information about your system. Therefore, all proposed solutions are a little bit like as an look into the crystal ball.
Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.
Try to reset the Lightroom preferences.
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/
It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/preference-file-and-other-file-locations.html
It's also possible that there's an issue with your catalog. Hold the Ctrl-Key while starting LrC. This opens a catalog selection dialog.
First select the appropriate recent catalog and let it check it – note the checkmark "Test integrity of this catalog" to check its integrity. If that doesn't help, try to create a new one and see if this catalog works. If yes, you could then try to import your current catalog into the new one.

I observe the same behaviour.
LrC consumes 20% of the CPU and reacts extremly slow.

Develop modules slows down to a crawl, going from one edited photo to the next is very sticky. I press the right arrow key and it may take 2-3 seconds to see the next photo. Even the preview generation slowed down compared to the previous version. It's a serious performance downgrade when dealing with large number of files. I tried uninstalling, restarting my computer and doing a clean install. Creating a new catalog, resetting the cashes. I was able to slightly improve the behaviour only by a little. Still unacceptable. Rolled back to the older version and things fly again. Library is stellar so is the develop on the older 14.5.1 version on both my computers, in my case iMac Pro 3 GHz 10-Core Intel Xeon W, Vega 56 Video Card 64GB Ram. M3Max Macbook pro 48Gb ram, 40 GPU cores.

10 min. to open, control bars to edit various functions (contrast, etc.) either don't move or when they do move the image doesn't change for a minuter or longer. That is the worse case, sometime it runs sort-of ok, but that is rare.
System data will follow.
Really appreciate your hehelp.

HI,
This is exactly what happens on my system too.
So far LrC 15 is unusable for me

@wysiwygot, @Rlrood, @SergeiZ, go to Catalog Settings > Metadata. Are either of these two options checked?

Should they be checked or unchecked ? I have one of them checked. LRC is stalling for every single task since the upgrade. Mac OS. Old machine but was working ok before.

@Florence_in_Switzerland: "Should they be checked or unchecked ?"
Are they currently checked? If so, uncheck them to see if that's what's causing the slowdown.

Hi so I unchecked them but it problem still there. Every simple task takes from 5 to 20 seconds. Using a slider to change temperature, using back slash to view before and after, comparing photos in grid view just anything is painfully slow.
Any other idea, seems like I am not the only one. Hopefully an update is coming soon...

Add me to the list of very unhappy LRC v15 users. I am experiencing the extreme lagginess reported by others: anything I try to do takes more than 20 seconds to actually happen, be it scrolling in the library, selecting a different file, opening a menu from the top bar, it does not matter, everything is affected. Interestingly, when I relaunch the program it runs fine (normal speed) but after a while the lag reappears.
I have done all the suggested fixes to no avail:
Deleted preferences (by the way, the preferences file in MacOS is supposed to be in
but there is no such file in my system. I had to recreate my preferences manually after I ascertained that deleting them by using the Shift+Option to launch did not solve the problem.
Uninstalled/installed LRC
Unchecked the culling options on the Catalog metadata panel
Created a new catalog and imported the old one into it. Question: when LRC v15 is installed, it creates a new catalog, what name does it give it? In my case it kept the same name.

Same here. In Lightroom Classic’s Develop module, switching images is really slow—it drags the whole editing process down by at least 3×. Specs: 128 GB RAM, M3 Max MacBook Pro.

Your catalog folder resides within a Dropbox folder. There are many reports of problems caused by syncing LR catalogs with cloud services. Try moving the catalog folder to some other location not synchronized by Dropbox (e.g. your desktop) to see if that's causing your issues.

No difference — already rolled back to V14. It’s back to normal speed now. I’ll wait for V15 to fix the issue before upgrading again.

I have much the same issue, though it isn't as noticeable in develop module. However, the simple act of moving a 20-image folder from one spot to the other took ~10 minutes.

Your catalog folder resides within a Onedrive folder. There are many reports of problems caused by syncing LR catalogs with cloud services. Try moving the catalog folder to some other location not synchronized by Onedrive (e.g. your desktop) to see if that's causing your issues.
See here for a recent report of Onedrive causing LR to freeze:

Thanks John.
I'll do as you suggest, but have to say that I have absolutely no idea how that has occured. I do not use Onedrive or the cloud in any way having to do with Lightroom or Photoshop. In fact, I do not use Onedrive at all, but perhaps Onedrive uses me! Again, thanks.

John, it seems that my previous post was actually in response to someone other's post not mine, so please ignore it. Seems that many are having a similar problem. An thoughts you have regarding my specific problem will be appreciated. I am at the end of what I can do, and images that need processing are befinning to pile up!
Thanks, Larry

I don't see anything in your System Info that stands out. There could be different causes going on here.

That's the correct path on Mac. But note that Finder hides the user Library folder by default. See here for how to navigate there in Finder:
