When "MASK is selected, the "add" & "subtract" menus do NOT appear anymore. How to access them?

When "MASK" is selected, the "add" & "subtract" menus do NOT appear anymore. How can I regain access them?  Thanks, this is driving me batty!

Have you actually created an adjustment in a mask?  eg. have you used the Brush or applied a gradient.

There is nothing to 'Add to' or 'Subtract from' until you have drawn a mask of some type.

Yes I did all of that, thank you.

Eventually, I finally figured out that *even after selecting* the brush (or
other item) I had to *click on the symbol itself in the menu box* to make
the add-subtract menu appear.
