P: Ability to create panoramas directly in Lightroom.

Wouldn't it be much more logical and convenient to have Photomerge as a kind of plugin in Lightroom to create panorama's instead of using Photoshop.
At best, not the resulting TIFF is stored, but only the parameters to create one. When this panorama acts like it was a DNG itself, you can develop it any way you like and print and export it the best way.

Not really.

Panorama creation is either destructive or it requires layers and layer masks. Lightroom doesn't support any of those three items.

That would be great along with HDR

Panorama are not destructive and do not require layers -> just create a new image either real or virtual, and you do not use mask nor alter the originals.
You could even stack all the photos used to create the panorama together with it.

This seems like it should be a straight forward and simple thing for Adobe to do, that is Panoramic and HDR directly in Lightroom.

The cheapo cameras even come with the feature built into them or in their software package that comes with them. It makes zero sense to me that I need to purchase Photoshop to do an arrangement of photos that cameras.

It doesn't need to have 900 million options and adjustments like PTGui or Photomatix, but should be equivalent to the current Photoshop option.

I can understand why HDR is not in it, but Panoramas seem like a no brainer.

The new DNG 1.4 specification allow's transparent pixels for panorama's.

I think Lightroom should be the place where these panorama's have to be made from existing DNG's. This could even be a plugin like the recover edges and flat field plugins.

I agree that the flow between Lightroom and Photoshop (or Elements in my case) should be at least much faster and more convenient when creating a Panorama. Once created, the panorama should be re-imported in Lightroom automatically.
I prefer making my final croping, rotation and final adjustments into Lightroom with the full panorama displayed.

Everyone wishes for this one. I want it too. But I'm being realistic and I don't think we will see this feature anytime soon. Maybe Lightroom 6 or 7 or maybe even later. Everyone say it is easy to be done. If it is, Adobe already use it to their advantage already (increase sales volume). Since Lightroom is non-destructive, that's why it's hard to implement. I could be wrong, but name me a software out there that can merge panorama, HDR and still keep it in RAW format. No? mean it is not that easy. . Just my 2cents. But I don't think we'll see these features for a very long time.

I've been wanting this for a long time. I dont know if there are technical or business reasons why its not available, but I also dont understand why more folks arent asking for it....maybe that's why it's not been done.
