Collection synching / Lightroom Mobile is a great addition to Lightroom 5.4. Please extend this functionality to Smart Collections as well.

While you are waiting for Adobe to implement that suggestion, you could have a look at this plug-in from Jeffrey Friedl: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/smart-collection-sync

As Jeffrey himself admits, it's a bit kludgy....but it does work.

There is a workaround:

(not sure if it's been mentioned already, because I can't search this thread only)

Use Jeffrey Friedls "Smart-Collection-Sync"-Plugin and then sync the mirrored/synced collection to mobile.

Then you might run into the next bug of the sort order, but the workaround for that is here:

Or just create a dumb collection with the same name as the Smart, then in the Smart select ALL, and drag and drop to the dumb. Do this as necessary (like when you want to show an image on your phone). Note: it will only copy over new images.

Hello LR team,

It would be good if smart collections could be synced to Lightroom too. Not just the conventional collections. And the same goes to collection sets... Enable to sync a whole set.

Thank you,

Vidu Gunaratna

Until Adobe supports syncing smart collections, you might be interested in Jeffrey Friedl's Lightroom Classic “Smart-Collection Sync” plugin.

I would really appreciate synchronizing smart collections. Lightroom has so much metadata and smart collections are such a benefit, it seems a waste not to leverage them this way. It's an obvious step forward in automating photo management, in my opinion.

I concur.  I appreciated the comment on Friedl's work around.  After getting it set up...it has been a good way to wait for Adobe to make improvements on syncing smart collections.

Long time Adobe user as a video/audio guy, but new to Lightroom.

After setting up a dozen Smart Collections for various portfolios, clients, etc., I'm more than a little dumbfounded that there's no way to sync them.

Especially since this thread is 7 years old?  Seems like a no-brainer feature to me.  How has this not been added since 2014?

There are at least two Lightroom Classic plugins that will sync smart collections:

http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/smart-collection-sync

and

Thanks for the tips 🙂 I'm sure those are very wel written plugins.

Having those is a good indication it's technically possible and the non-implementation of this feature request (and many others) is just a buisness decision. It's another proof, if needed, development has switched to LR Cloudy and they barely maintain Classic alive.

Indeed, the request is over 7 years old and you will never see implemented. Adobe has made it clear they won't improve the sync features in Classic. Even bugs seems to remain unsolved: sync in classic NEVER works as expected. If you want the better sync feature, you need to switch to LR Cloudy, with all it's implications. Buisness decisions, not tech and even less user oriented. Follow the cash, they said...

Yeah, Adobe HATES making millions on LR Classic users, they'll be getting rid of it soon! 😜

I’m not saying they’ll fet rid of it. As long as people keep buying it, they have no reason to stop selling it. But they’re capitalizing on an stagnating product, delivering minimal updates (or those that are in camera raw and cross app) and refusing basic request by fear of canibalizing cloudy. Cloudy might be a good product but has some major blocking points for some users.

Maintaining 2 similar products must be expensive and nothing tells us the pain gain equation will remain beneficial to classic forever 😉

Yeah ... as one who has several hundreds GBs of pictures and a self-built NAS server to store them, I have absolutely zero intetest in cloudy...

On the other hand, having my own Internet-connected NAS made this particular feature request less useful 😉

I agree wholeheartedly!!!  I'm a huge user of Smart Collections and I'm rather annoyed to just now learn that SC don't sync to the cloud and\or mobile.  Very frustrated.  Nothing's ever easy.....
