Possible to export photos with the name of their collection as part of file name?

Is there any way to export anentire collection of photos in Lightroom Classic such that the collection name is appended to the file name on output? Way back when I used Aperature it was a feature I used often and I’m really missing it.

One of my ongoing projects is to document sea turtle necropsies.  Included in each image is an ID number for the turtle. As part of my workflow after it import, I apply those numbers as keywords, along with other identifying terms. A tedious job because there can be thousands of photos at the end of a long day. This is the only way I’m able to retrieve them later without going nuts.  I often then sort the turtles into separate collections with the ID  number as the name. Makes things easier. When I export the photos for researchers, I like to include the turtle ID in the filename along with the original, but it’s drudge work to do that for what is sometimes hundreds of turtles, and thousands if I need to share from multiple years.  Especially as I’ve already done the work during the initial workflow stages.

And the question is, is there an easy way to export a collection with the collection name added to the beginning of each filename? I know I can add any text to an exported file, and I can cchange filename later through Bridge or with a perl script or something. But I am really hoping for something much easier and less time consuming. All this is volunteer work, and I enjoy it, but not the tedium at the end.

Thanks for any advice, suggestions, hacks, fixes, or reality checks.

To include the Turtle ID as part of the exported filename, you could use the Folder Publisher plugin, which has a very powerful renaming facility.  If you make the Turtle IDs subkeywords of the parent keyword "Turtle ID", then you could use this file renaming token:

{Keywords:ChildOf=Turtle ID}

A downside of this is an image can be in multiple collections.

Arrrrh! Caught me out again. (image in multiple collections)

Back to agreeing with Ian- 'Custom Text' in the rename template.

I would use Ian_Lyons suggestion, but slightly modified:

If it is available (blank), Use the 'Caption' field (or other metadata field) to enter the Collection name for all images in a Collection (select all- in the Collection).

Then define a rename preset-

Cons:  You would need to add captions if further photos are added to the Collection before export.

Finding an unused metadata field may be a problem.

You can create a renaming template with custom text at any location in file name. In below example, I've applied the custom text at the beginning of the filename.

Well, not that I know of, in any automated sense. You could do custom renaming of the files and so the export file name can have the collection name. But every time you export a collection, you'd have to change the custom name.

You might want to search for plug-ins that can do this.

Had you used keywords for this purpose, then the answer is yes you can do this in an automated fashion.
