Can't import to Lightroom CC freezing on import

I have all of a sudden not been able to import any image from my external harddrive into Lightroom CC. I have the most updated version and the procedure that has worked for the past 1 year is the same.  I click the imprt button bottom left, select image (I have tried on COPY and ADD), I choose the loction to copy/add and hit import then Lightroom just freezes.

Can anyone please help with the problem
