Question

Photos disappeared from Lightroom CC after recent update

Folks

After a recent update of Lightroom CC / macOS Mojave, none of my images are showing up in Lightroom CC. I just get a black screen in edit & grid mode. The interface still correctly shows the number of image .. but no images themselves.

The images are available on both http://lightroom.adobe.com/ and the mobile apps.

Appreciate your help in resolving this.

It's absolutely disgusting that this can happen.

It happened to me a few minutes ago, as I updated from Lightroom v6 to v7. After thinking I'd have a heart attack, seeing all the photos gone, nowhere to be found, I came across this discussion. I can confirm that removing the files starting with "Managed Catalog" did fix the issue. Mind you, I only removed the ones from after the update and left the ones from before (you can tell by the hour the files were last modified). I didn't delete them, I moved them from the folder, just in case.

So yeah, this still works in 2023.

You’ve posted to an ancient thread. It is highly unlikely that the issue described in this thread, though not impossible, is the same one you are currently experiencing. Rather than resurrect an old thread that is seemingly similar, you are better off posting to a new thread with fresh, complete information, including system information, a complete description of the problem, and step-by-step instructions for reproduction.

If the issue is the same, we will merge you back into the appropriate location.

Thank you!

If you are sure everything is sync'd and backed up I would suggest you quit LRCC then go to Pictures and delete Lightroom Library.lrlibrary

Re-launch LRCC and wait for the completion of sync with the cloud.

Thanks 99jon.

After seeing your comment, I remembered an Adobe note that suggested the following:

  • Shutdown Lightroom CC
  • Find Lightroom Library.lrlibrary
  • Right click on file & "Show Package Contents"
  • Find the sub-folder with name that has a lot of numbers
  • Thrash all files starting with "Managed Catalog"

I did the above & the catalog started synching .. but seemed much faster than downloading all the content. So, I'm not sure what is happening technically, but it synched up quickly (about 22k pictures).

You only usually need to open package contents to copy any originals still in the library cache. In your case everything seems to have been in the cloud. So no problem! Glad to help.
