Subject selection not working

Community Beginner ,
Apr 29, 2025 Apr 29, 2025

Every time I try to select subject Lightroom either says it can't be found or does something very weird with the mask, screenshot included.

The red lines across are what it has done to select that subject.

I have never had this issue before so I assume it's a bug.

Hi @Sophie325387860g7k!

Thanks so much for sharing your System Info! I noticed that your graphics card drivers haven’t been updated in about 9 months. There are newer drivers available for your NVIDIA RTX 3500 Ada Generation Laptop GPU on NVIDIA’s website.

When you get a chance, could you try updating them and see if that improves performance?

Let me know how it goes!

Best,
Alek

Hi @Sophie325387860g7k! Welcome to the community!

Which version of Lightroom are you using? Does this issue happen with every photo or just specific ones? Please double-check that your computer's drivers are fully updated. If that doesn't help, you might want to try resetting Lightroom's preferences to restore the app to its default state. Just make sure to back up your preferences if you want to restore any settings later. To reset preferences, hold Alt+Shift when starting up Lightroom.

Thanks a lot!

Alek

@Aleke Hi, I've tried witrh the most recent version and did attempt to us an older version as well. I've reset the preferences, uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom, and none of these fixes have worked. I have also checked with Lenovo and drivers are all up to date.

Hi @Sophie325387860g7k!

When you get a moment, could you please share your System Info with us? You can find it in Lightroom by going to Help > System Info. Just copy the info into a text file and attach it to your reply—or feel free to share it via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or any other file-sharing service that works for you.

Thanks so much!
Alek

Hi - I have a similar problem in Photoshop - V29.6. I rolled back and the problem still exists.

Issues with AI masks are almost always caused by outdated GPU drivers. Check for updates with the manufacturer or your GPU, not in Windows.
