P: Add Color Labels

Contributor ,
Oct 26, 2017 Oct 26, 2017

I added thousands of photos (other than those in Synced Catalogs) and now I cannot differentiate them other than by the standard filters provided because I have used color labels to identify certain criteria. Color labels are just as important as Flags, Please add them!

1. Please provide COLOUR CODING for Lightroom Cloud so that we can better organise images in our albums and folders.

2. Please provide a search methods whereby we can identify photos not in any albums or folders ie.they have been missed. I have tried the 'not in any album' search ,it does not work.

             ThankYou.

Here is a link where you can make a feature request to Adobe.

I would like to be able to use color-ratings in all Lightroom products - right now it only works in Classic.

It currently keeps me from including color-ratings in my workflow in any significant manner because I cannot even filter out my photos using their color-ratings when using my phone, iPad, web browser versions.

The use in the Lightroom (not classic) software on my computer would have limited use because when I am on my computer, I have access to my Classic version. I would imagine however, that having it across the different Lightroom products would make a ton of sense and would allow me to have a more complete workflow going forward.

Thank you.

This request for basic functionality is over 4 years old. At this point I'm convinced the product team has decided this is a key differentiator between LR and LRC, and they're just not ever going to do it. It's a shame. At this point I hold out more hope for Capture One to add cloud capabilities to their new iPad app than for Adobe to actually implement color coding.

I am NOT part of Adobe, I have never worked for Adobe.

However, I have built, sold and managed software applications.

When you look at feature requets from customers; one of the first questions is:

-- Do I have a viable work around? In this case, the anwer is yes. You can use keywords.

This basically means unless there is some other overriding philosphy, or market condition, this request will languish.

So, until another company catches up with Adobe for multi-device syncronized solution for photo management, and makes this work around not viable. This feature request will not likely have a high priority.

In my opinion, other issues which do NOT have viable work arounds due to split data such as manual facial tagging should be given greater heft.

Four years later and this basic feature has yet to be added. I use color labels extensively in my work flow on folders and collections. The lack of this functionality in the cloud based Lightroom ecosystem prevents me from utilizing the software that I'm paying for in my subscription. This is extremely frustrating for me. Why should I have to modify my Lightroom classic based workflow to make use of the cloud based version? This is a basic incompatibility between the two versions of Lightroom that are supposed to work together and complement each other. It makes no sense to me.

@craigblock

Sorry, you are under the mistaken impression that Cloud focused and Classic are supposed to work together.

Adobe has stated they are not going to enhance the sync between the products, and will maintain the existing sync functionality (for now is highly implied). These products are NOT designed to work together as part of a cohessive single process or system.

So even if Color Labels are added to the CLoud system, they are not likely to be added to the sync between the Classic and Cloud.

If you are staying completely in the Cloud ecosystem; you can actually replace Color Labels with Keywords. I have yet to read a use case where this is not viable. I have done it...

Please try to take the great tool from Adobe Lightroom Classic to Adobe Lightroom Cloud to enhance the options to sort photos.

How is the Lightroom classic colour labels still not in Lightroom classic. It's such a simple fix to add basic UI elements and one field in the database... I am seeing articles from 2017 about this.

Make sure to upvote the existing issue. A new thread does not help Adobe know that the issue should be considered.

Also consider the target user base.

I may be mistaken but keywords are not a work around as they don't sync back to Lightroom classic. I use colour labels to indicate which images need editing outside of Lightroom, to indicate which photos I'm planning to print etc. The only solution I have at the moment is adding photos to an additional album, but it's then difficult on mobile to see which photos I've added without jumping between albums!  Adobe, this is surely a simple feature to implement, but 5 years later we're still missing it, please consider adding it to your roadmap.

As I explained in my previous post, I find the sync feature between Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Mobile very limited.

The idea here is very simple: add color labels feature to Lightroom Mobile. Then sync color labels from Mobile to Classic and vice-versa, just like ratings and flags sync between the two.

In Lightroom Classic (haven't used CC in a bit, so I don't remember if this feature is available) you can assign colors to images, similar to the way Bridge handles workflow. I think it would be useful to have this feature available on the cloud-based applications/programs as well, that sync just like star ratings and flagged/unflagged options.

Hello

Ive moved away from desktop LR and am using only an iPad and iPhone. I'm really enjoying the experience. A feature I would like, unless someone knows how already or uses a workaround, is to know at a glance in one of the modules (info?) if I've uploaded this image to my smugmug site? Or, can color coding be in a future update.

Ive tried using stars and or the check mark but I use those for different purposes.

Thanks,

Tom

Only option currently is to use another field or keyword. At which point you can filter for the keyword being present or not.

Can color labels for making selects still be used in the current version of Lightroom?
I see how to rank and flag individual photos but no way to color code each photo.
Am I missing something here?

I hope that one day, not so far, you'll add "Labels" and "Sync edits" in Lightroom (CC).

I see most of these things have been requested at least since 2018. Please, can you make this somewhat resemble a pro option for photographers already? Best case, attempt to make this feature parity with LRC.  SO FRUSTRATING. If you need to charge more for a 'pro' option, fine.

The best thing will be to do ONE Lightroom version, with all the features of LrC and L with the L'GUI. STOP

Agreed. It makes no sense to me at all. I have built my entire workflow around the standard features in LRC. The workarounds suggested are unsatisfactory and logically just not necessary. We are talking about missing basic functionality. This issue alone prevents me from using the web based LR for anything more than sharing galleries of proofs.

I agree!  Please add them with the little box next to the stars as in Classic.
