P: Enable/Disable Duplicate Detection

Community Beginner ,
Oct 29, 2021 Oct 29, 2021

For some reason, despite different metadata, file names, etc. Lightroom CC seems to think photos take sequentially from the same camera have already been imported before. This is frustrating as there seems to be no way in app to make Lightroom import these "duplicates". I have tried importing directly from the camera, the CF card and from my NAS, nothing seems to stop LR from classifying these photos as duplicates. All photos are imported to a folder on the NAS with its own date of import. File names are not duplicated.

Two things: 1. Does anyone have a work around for this issue and; 2. How do I make a feature request for Adobe to enable this function. I didn't have this issue in LR Classic.

I have a vague recollection that importing via the web interface bypasses the duplicate detection. I don't have any suitable files to test the theory, but it might be worth a quick go as a workaround.

While this app is amazing, and i have fun using it, I really believe you should remove the feature "skipping duplicates", not only it wont let you import photos you want to edit differently and keep the other edit, but also sometimes app doesnt recognize that the photo is not actually a duplicate, but more rather a simillar one with some other photo. I tried looking for a solution in the settings but there was none

If you want to create multiple edits of an image in Lr. you have two choices:

1. Use versions. Single image, but allowes you to easily switch between versions.

2. Specifically to duplicate the image. Right click on an image and select duplicate....

As for the imports. I have no suggestions; and I do not have such an issue.

Super annoying to not be able to run over half of my pictures through Lightroom because in spite of different file names, time stamps, and image content, Lightroom decided they're "duplicates" and according to your customer service, there's simply no way to uncheck that option on Android. How hard is that? Really.

Hey guys,

SO after hours wasted I've realised it seems there no way for me to import all my photos from a recent wedding beacuse Lightroom thinks some of my similar photos are duplicates. I can't find a way around this, and there seems to be no option in Lightroom CC to modify this setting?

I know you can in classic, but I don't use classic, so that doesn't help.

can I please put a desperate call out to developers to change this ASAP? It's really made my working life difficult over these last few wedddigns and it's wasted SO much of my time. It's so frustrating that I'd actually consider a different platform altogether if this can't be fixed. Especially when we pay such a premium for it. Respectfully, can we (the photography community of all who are complaining about this issue) PLEASE have this fixed??

thankyou!!!!!🫠

I am curious, how you manage to get duplicate images. Even on the highest frame rate of my Sony A7RIV shooting pictures of a water spout, or my wife sitting still (I forgot to change the drive settings) I have never had Lr flag as duplicates.

Since this is weddings, by chance do you have multiple cameras and the issue is importing the images from the second, third ... camera?

Yes so that's what we are all complaining about I think....the images are in fact NOT duplicates, but are being listed by Lightroom itself as duplicates. They are seperate files with seperate name, and slightly different to the human eye. But Lightroom seems them the same image and won't let us import them...which is most time wasteful and frustrating.
We would prefer to choose between them, so having the option in Lightroom CC to be able to disable this problematic setting would be a great help for us. hence the bet for the developers to possible look into this.

I believe you are missing the point I am making. What you want has already been stated multiple times. I am trying instead to help you find a work around.

Can you please post two images which Lr believes are duplicates? Depending on what is displayed, either myself or another community user might see a viable workaround for you.

If we do NOT find a viable workaround, having the actual files in hand will also assist Adobe's development team to understand the issue and either allow for your requirement, or enhance the duplicate image detection software.

I went into my memory card from my mac and selected all the photos and changed the name.  I used the add to the file name feature. That fixed it for me.

LATEST

- No duplicate detection / deletion feature

- No easy syncing with iPhoto

- No manual geotagging

Why are these basic features missing from Lightroom 😞
