P: LrM - Allow application of metadata to multiple photos at once

LEGEND ,
Jul 14, 2016 Jul 14, 2016

Allow me to select multiple photos and apply stars & ratings to the selected photos. Frequently I like to mark all photos as 3-stars, then filter on >= 3 stars. I then start setting photos I don't like to 2 stars to remove them from the visible set. As it is I can't mark all photos as 3 stars in one batch, I instead have to use the desktop to do it.

Loads of people are using it. We just get used to limitations, and a lot of people only flag/rate one by one.

How is that related to doing that in mobile?

How is this still not possible after three years?

And you’d think Adobe would prioritize this kind of basic select and change many at once, with their push to LR CC.

I guess they’re too busy spending their record profits on something else than building the products.

I would really like to see this too. It’s really frustrating not being able to do this.

Really annoying going through photos on the iPad from the phone and cameras after a trip. It’s also not good that the collection title isn’t in the search. Example : Collection called Japan, search for Japan finds pictures with tags of Japan or oriental looking buildings but NOT the collection you have carefully stored the Japan trip photos in !

Can we have the ability to add metadata and keywords to multiple images at once, and not on single image only. It is very time consuming and boring to go through individual images and to this.

The official blog post says "This functionality is being worked on for iOS and will be made available as soon as possible."

That would be a great feature. They implemented similar stuff with the last android update, but it's not possible to add tags to several pictures at the same time...

Yes yes. It is unacceptable that captions / metadata and adjustments can not applied to multiple photos. It makes lr mobile insufficient for a lot of editorial assignments. I can’t spend too much time copying and pasting a caption to each photo.

Doesn’t seem to be in today’s update which finally gave iPads copy/paste of editing parameters into multiple images. Why is iOS behind? Who uses an android tablet for serious work? Adobe recognizes this with photoshop for iPad released today, but for Lightroom, the iPad continues to lag behind. Also, the integration between LR and PS for iPad is lacking. No way I can see to "edit in” PS for iPad from LR on iPad.

Different teams take responsibility for different features Thomas, and it just happened that the Android team were leading the copy/paste one. Multi copy/paste just came to iOS, and multi info editing is sure to follow, as it did with Android.

Photoshop for iPad is a 1.0 product, so it is very early days, but I've written about how to pass files back and forth here, until more direct integration is developed.

Any update on this? You can add ratings, flags, titles etc. to several pictures at once since the last update, but not tags (most important one for me). Why? 😞

I am trying to edit some assignments in Lightroom mobile on an iPad. I don’t see a way to apply metadata info like captions to multiple images at once.
I can copy and paste one by one , but that’s too time consuming. I see the option on my android phone. The iPad version of Lightroom seems more confusing than the android. I am trying to figure out if I can realistically leave the MacBook behind for editing on location. But the mobile iPad Lightroom seems a bit cumbersome.
I am baffled that such an important feature for a working feature is not readily available or easy to find.

Hi Stefano,

Adding metadata to multiple images in Lightroom mobile is not possible as of now. However, it would really help if you can share your feedback on our community:

As this forum is monitored by our engineers and they will review it for future product development.

We need more helping hands like you, as we're building towards a better user experience.

Thanks,

Thank you for your reply.
Actually on my phone with Lightroom mobile I can paste descriptions to
multiple photos at once.
It is a pretty fundamental feature, I am surprised it is not available. I
will share the feedback.
I feel the Lightroom version on my google pixel 3a is better structured and
has more features. I am surprised the iPad version is so behind.
Thank you,
Stefano

"I am surprised the iPad version is so behind."

I don't think it's very much behind (if at all). The iOS and Android versions are developed by different teams (obviously) and the development paths will be influenced by the different OS versions such that not every new feature gets to both platforms at the same time. There are features in iOS which aren't in Android, and vice versa, which can be a little confusing for users of both types of mobile devices, but hopefully feature parity is still an Adobe objective.

In my experience the layout/structure of the android version is a lot more
intuitive.
It allowed to paste corrections before the iPad version.

The fact that iOS iPad version does not allow filling titles/descriptions
for multiple photos at once I
Is a dealbreaker form professional use for many photographers.

The issue is that the Google Pixel screen is not as nice to work with as an
iPad.

Adobe is putting so many resources on the cloud and Lightroom vs the LR
classic version, but it’s missing professional use features.
Also to share images it requires a fast WiFi. I was at a Starbucks on a
deadline. I could not export as an album link with the iPad.
I had to export as jpgs and use google drive. With my old MacBook Air 11 it
would have been a breeze.
