Question

contextual task bar

PS beta 26.5.0 20250306.m.3000, the  position of the contextual bar cannot be fixed, even after marking "pin bar position". After performing another step in processing the "V" next to it disappears and the bar changes its location, even outside the PS working area. Win 10.

Any ideas?

Hi Miron.  I am trying to picture what you are referring to as 'The "V" next to it.'

Perhaps a screen shot would make it clear.

I am using Windows 11, and the CTB is working as it should.  I can change documents, perform different functions etc. and the CTB stays in the exact same location when pinned.  I have a short action that toggle the CTB on and off with F3.  I find that convenient, and very quick to do.

This is PS version 26.4.1 20250225. There's a V next to "pin bar position" and the CTB won't move.

now the same file opened with Beta. Although "pin bar position" is selected, the CTB is misplaced to the left.

Now the CTB was reset, moved to the center and "pinned".

However after minor adjustments, upon moving back to the original layer, CTB is misplaced again, though still "pinned"

OK, I have worked out that the "V" you referred to is the 'Check Mark' or 'Tick' which indicates which option is active.

I have just spent some time experimenting, and I have found the CTB only moves when UnPinned for certain functions. i.e. according to what you are doing.

You can see below that the CTB is unpinned and has attached to the selected Shape layer.

But when I select a raster brush stroke layer, it moves to a previous location.  So I am seeing the same thing as you.

I did wonder if this was deliberate because the CTB was less relevant with the raster layer, but that is not really the case.  We can:

  • Select Subject
  • Remove Background
  • Adjust Colours
  • Implement Free Transform
  • Add an Adjustment Layer

So it might be a bug.

What do you think @CShubert ?
