New Beta Feature: Focus Mode

Photoshop Beta now includes a new 'Technology Preview' called Focus Mode.

Focus mode limits the appearance of non-essential messages so that you can stay in the flow when using the program. With this new option enabled:

  1. The Welcome screen will not include 'What's new' feature descriptions
  2. The 'What's new' message will not appear when Photoshop is launched
  3. Blue in-product alerts promoting discovery and use of certain features will be suppressed
  4. The color mode preference will be auto set to 'neutral Color Mode'

To enable Focus Mode, start Photoshop, open Preferences, scroll down to the 'Technology Previews' section and check 'Enable Focus Mode'. Restart for changes to take effect.

Let us know what you think, and whether you want to see additional behaviors linked to this new feature.

Love this. Talk to the managers of all the other product lines (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat especially) and push this same "Focus Mode" in their development. Advertising-in-App drives me up the WALL, and I'm glad it's being told to go sit quietly in the corner.

Thank you for adding this feature, Focus Mode is really useful for our development in many situations, however it seems that some dialog popups are still showing up even with FocusMode 1 added to the PSUserConfig.txt file, thus interrupting some automated workflows.

If it's possible to have future versions of Photoshop use Focus Mode to also block these dialog popups, that would be greatly appreciated:

Type 1: Full-Screen Feature Dialogs (occurs sporadically)

Type 2: Welcome Dialog (only on first launch)

Love the sound of the first 3 in the list, but would love clarification on what "Neutral Color Mode" means/refers to—just the application background or how its treating color in my documents?

@eTaylorC , If we ever use color to make something pop in the UI (like the blue share button in the upper right hand corner), this neutral color mode will pull out that color so it won't be distracting.

Amazing! I thought document color seemed awfully unrelated to the rest of the features under the check box. That explanation clears it up. Might be worth revising the description line: The color mode for non-essential messages will be auto set to 'Neutral Color Mode'
When I searched help for "Neutral Color Mode" nothing came up, so I wasnt sure what it was/meant.
Thank you!

Goodness, this will help a lot of thread starters in the Photoshop forums.

OK, I just checked and mine was already enabled.  Is this the default?  I don't remember setting it, but I couldn't bet my life on it.  I'll turn it off and see what the difference is.

No, it is not enabled by default.
