The new Gradient tool is awful please give us the option to use legacy gradient.

IGNORE ME.
I've found how to revert back to the old way.
Oops haha.
Select your gradient tool › right at the top, select the drop down where it says 'Gradient' › Change this to Classic Gradient.
Your welcome.

Even after switching to classic gradient, I can't get the gradient tool to work the way it used to on a layer mask. There's no way to apply multiple gradients, it just keeps deleting the previous one and applying a new one.

so far the only way to truly use the gradient tool the way it was is to use the older version of the program before this horrible misstep of an "upgrade"
even in classic, it doesn't work on layer masks - it's frustrating - this isn't an upgrade, its a straight up new tool . . . Dear Adobe, stop taking away things that work, and messing up workflow ! if you have a new idea make a new tool, don't mess with that works, or keep the original as a legacy tool !
worst upgrade ever 😞

Guys, this is an old thread and I hope you have worked out by now, but if you need to use multiple gradients on the same layer or mask, you need to set it to Foreground to Transparent. The is exactly how it has always worked.

Maybe you could post a video of what you´re trying to do. I am able to apply multiple gradients to a layer mask with the new tool set to classic. Maybe you have just different tool settings than with your older PS version.

So how do I use the gradient tool the way it was on masks??? It doesn't work properly.
PLEASE ADOBE, STOP "IMPROVING" LEGACY TOOLS AND MAKING ME HAVE TO RESEARCH HOW TO FIX THEM

How do I get the gradient tool to work like normal while making so I don't have to manually go to the gradient window to switch between white and black??? It's soooooooo annoying!

Please please please take four minutes to check out this video from Colin Smith. It breaks my heart to see people are still not getting the new gradient tool. It absolutely works in layer masks, and does so a lot me effectively than the classic tool. Watch it to the end as Colin demonstrates an added bonus feature about adding texture to his lighting effects workaround. It's quite clever, and is not remotely complicated.

Ive been using Photoshop since version 3.0, and, like a lot of things, this seems so much more complicated than it needs to be... the lighting tool worked great- why change it? And the gradient tool was good enough- making it more complicated isnt helping anyone.
Maybe give us the basic tools in a 'Regular' mode and if people want to get crazy and make all of the extra tweaks in their image then make an 'Advanced' mode for them.
Otherwise just quit changing things that work well as they are. you are alienating more users than you are pleasing.

Is there a way to set the classic gradient as the default?

The classic gradient option, even with dumping the folders of candy colors, works nothing like the useful one used to: you could eyedropper 2 colors from your composition, and make a gradient from them. No more.

Thanks! The new tool is good, I see the value in it, however it completely disrupted my workflow and no time to learn it enough to use it right now.

I found the way to toggle to go back and forth between the "Classic" gradient tool (in photoshop 2023) and the new version.
But, photoshop-2023 keeps reverting away from the classic version to the new version by some mysterious keystroke I am mistakenly hitting. Does anyone know what keystrokes I am mistakenly hitting that makes me jump back to the new version?
