Photoshop's liquify filter not loading on macOS

Applying liquify filter to smart object not loading when using Macbook Pro with M1 Pro chip. It only works if graphic processor is unchecked. Please fix bug!

    Hi, I don't know if this will help anyone, but I was having an absolute nightmare with how buggy Photoshop was being on my new Macbook Pro with M2 Max chip and this has fixed it for me (Fingers crossed, it's been 2 days)

    I think the issue was when I logged into Adobe Creative Cloud on my new Macbook - the migration assistant from Apple had already ported over the original version of photoshop (the Intel version from my 2019 Macbook Pro with Intel Chip), CC then popped up and said it would replace it with the Apple Silicon version and the settings. It never worked correctly from the offset, I tried every setting suggestions (all the native canvas boxes checked and unchecked, graphics processor etc)

    In the end I decided to fully remove photoshop and I followed these steps to remove the settings and temporary files from my computer (Make sure you make a note of all the settings you need as you have to copy it across manually and save all your actions down and make a note of your workspace layout and toolbar etc.) 

    I did this, https://www.drbuho.com/how-to/uninstall-photoshop-mac followed by this to get rid of temp files https://www.drbuho.com/how-to/fix-scratch-disk-full-error-in-ps (You don't need to buy the thing just use the manual instructions)

    I also made sure CC wasn't backing up my Photoshop settings etc and the I re-installed and set up manually. So far for me this seems to have worked. I am just speculating, but it seems to me the issues are introduced when CC moves you over from the Intel version to the Silicon version with the settings copied over. (I am also going to post this in another thread I started about this issue, so if you see this elsewhere that's why)

      Same maddening problem with m1 max 64gb. Wasted all my time and work.

      Trying V 23.2 is good for now.

        v 23.2 didn't make any difference. But freeing ram with clean mymac and closing whatsapp app worked for about 3 hours

        Would you please try updating Photoshop to the latest version (v24.1.1)? 

        To update Photoshop, click "Update" in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to Photoshop. More detailed instructions for updating

          You say it is a known issue at this point, but where is the proof? When I called Adobe last week, they blamed the operating system not being updated. I updated the operating system. Then they blamed that they couldn't get Rosetta 2 to load. You shouldn't need Rosetta 2 for an app designed for Apple Silicone. All I have been able to do so far is get Adobe to blame Apple. I don't have any proof that they think it is a bug in their software.


          Liquify does not work properly with MacBook Pro 2023 with M2 Max chip. When trying to liquify it's really really laggy and goes all jerky making it impossible to use. It only works normally if graphic processor is unchecked. I need the Graphics Processor on as without it I can't view the guides I have put in (Although switching it off fixes the issue, I have a more than adequate graphics processor that it should be working correctly).

          The images I am working on generally aren't that big about 15-60MB and the liquify is on a copy of the Background layer so that this point the file only has 2 layers. I have tried switching the native canvas option on and off, and changing the advanced Graphics Processor Settings, neither of these seems to make any difference. I have also tried increasing and decreasing the allowable memory usage to no avail.

          Any ideas how to resolve this or when it will be fixed? I bought this expensive new MacBook which I use every day for work to speed up my workflow, not make it slower and it's causing a lot of issues, not only to me, but many other users are experiencing the same problem.

            please post the contents of Photoshop's Help>System Info... menu, so that we get to know your OS, its version, the exact version of Photoshop you are running, the date of the GPU driver, etc.

            Hi, I do see that two of the plugins load only after 12 seconds, not sure why. I see that the 3D ones do not load.

            Hi, I am also having the same issue on non-smart objects. I have a brand new 2023 MacBook Pro. I am hoping I have provided all the required information below. I need the Graphics Processor on as without it I can't view the guides I have put in (Although switching it off fixes the issue, I have a more than adequate graphics processor that it should be working correctly). The images I am working on generally aren't that big about 15-60MB. I have tried switching the native canvas option on and off, this seems to make no difference. Any ideas how to resolve this or when it will be fixed? I bought this expensive new MacBook to speed up my workflow, not make it slower.

            Reduce the amount of memory you are giving Photoshop. Somewhere closer to 60,000MB will work much better. The graphics uses shared system memory and you have to leave enough for the rest of the computer functions.

            This same thing happens to me since I start to pay this. Appear the message " Your graphics processor is incompatible. Insuficient VRAM: 536MB of 1500 MB required" 

             

            And what I do now, Adobe? I need to resolve this

            Please provide us with enough information to help. What operating system and version, how much RAM and scratch disk space do you have, are you running a bunch of other apps at the same time, how large are the images you work on? Have you updated your graphics driver?

              This same thing happens to me at random when liquifying normal pixel layers (non smart object). Liquify will work fine for most of the day and then will just stop loading results until I uncheck the graphics processor (which then produces other bugs like the brush size/hardness preview not displaying). On a mac studio we M1 Max.

              Please fix this!

              Hi Ranjisha,

               

              I'm running Ventura 13.0.1, Photoshop 25.5.3. The only thing that consistently seems to patch the issue is for me to uncheck "graphics processor" which causes other issues as I've said. I honestly can't remember when this started but it does track to around the time I started using this new machine with the M1 processor.

              We're sorry to hear that the options in the "Liquify" filter are not working.

              Could you please share the version of Photoshop (Help > About Photoshop) and the macOS version on your computer?

              Do you see the issue with Liquify filter or other filters as well?

              What are your system specifications? You should have 2GB of video memory.

              1. If you restore your preferences using this manual method, does it work https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually correctly? You can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back if that doesn't solve it.
              2. Go to Preferences > Technology Previews... and check "Disable Native Canvas" - then restart Photoshop. Does the problem still occur? Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Restart Photoshop. Does the problem persist?

              The "Liquify" filter is still not working unless you. uncheck graphic Processor. COME ON ADOBE  FIX THIS!!!!!
